This is the plan... we have a couple days pre cruise. Sailing on Princess out of San Pedro. Will rent a car at LAX need a hotel for 2 nights. Drop car off near pier with shuttle to ship. Any recommendations for hotel areas? And a car rental that will work?

Thank you

First, regarding rental car drop off in San Pedro...Both Hertz and Enterprise have offices there, very near the pier...BUT, both are open until only 1:00 pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays...so, depending on which day is your embarkation, that may prove to be a little difficult. I'd contact the agencies directly and see if there is some arrangement for a drop off leaving the keys in a box or something...If not, you may have to drop the car in Long Beach, Torrance of LAX and catch an Uber back to the pier.

IMHO, the best place to stay in the LA area is Santa Monica--best weather, lots of nice areas to walk around in, scenic, upscale, at the beach...But, with a car, you can stay almost anywhere (just don't stay too far away from what you want to do or you will spend a lot of time in traffic...

Which brings up another question: What do you want to do? If you wanted to do a lot of movie/TV studio related stuff, you might be better off staying in the Universal City/Burbank area...If you wanted to spend a lot of time at Disneyland, then it's Anaheim...And so on...

Another area I like is Marina Del Rey...conveniently near LAX and the beach and on the West Side...puts you close to the Venice Beach Boardwalk (worth a stroll--especially when the weather is nice) and not far from Santa Monica...

Also, with a rental car, be aware that a lot of hotels in LA have high daily parking charges at the hotel...
