evandbob Posted September 8, 2017 #26 Share Posted September 8, 2017 Agree the Western routes with get very busy. Can't see many going to Southern (ABC) islands. More sailings to Cayman and Jamaica, as well as Mexican ports like Costa Maya and Progresso. Cozumel will be pretty crowded. That's after MIA and FLL get back to operations. Seanote Posted September 8, 2017 #27 Share Posted September 8, 2017 Doubtful that Western Caribbean is the answer. There won't be berth space for all those ships. Berth space is something negotiated years in advance. To exasperate the problem, there is all the Alaska cruise ships returning to the Caribbean in a few weeks. You just can't dump extra ships at some of the smaller western ports like Belize and Roatan, the infustructure is not there to support it.
evandbob Posted September 8, 2017 #28 Share Posted September 8, 2017 I thought of that but the ships could always tender to port...meanwhile, prayers certainly for the island residents And once you tender, is your only available "excursion" helping to clean up debris? Or if you arrive after the clean up is done, can you help with installing electricity or running water? How about actually pitching in to rebuild structures? A port like St Maarten will be closed for a very long time. Thoughts and prayers for the locals living there.
