Boy, I sure know what you mean about that "shoving it down your throat" comment! I've also noticed those inconsistencies of which you speak, too. Wish I could fully believe your "we care about each other" statement, though. Perhaps some day....
Have a nice day!

Sue,
Have enjoyed your posts and insights tremendously. Have been a member for a few years and very rarely post but felt I wanted to show my support. Keep posting. Always look forward to hearing what you think.

"Why so blue? Maybe "you're just having a bad day." (Sorry, I could not resist!)

No one seems to remember how solicitous and condescending you were to Margeaux a short while back. A "newcomer" tried to express genuine unhappiness about her own experiences, and her feelings were reduced to a breezy cliche."

"I do have to agree with the previous poster. I don't think anyone will forget your manner towards a poster regarding a cruise that was not perfect. As the poster pevious said, is that all you do is sit infront of the computer screen and monitor the board."

It seems to me that while Sue's "breezy cliche" may have been less than praiseworthy, the vitriol of the response has far outweighed what was said then. I went back and carefully read both the "Never again.." and the "suggested guidelines for posting a negative" threads. The early "knee-jerk" reaction of the so-called "Princess Apologists" were just that - a negative response to negative stimulus. But the ugliness of the response to those first few comments has gone far, far beyond anything that was said in those early postings - even spilling over into several other threads.

Margeaux' first post and the initial reaction to it have been buried in a sea of hostile responses. That is a very sad thing. But I have to say that I can handle anything that Sue says better than I can handle the kind of pettiness I've seen here in the last couple of days.

As I'm so fond of quotes, I'll close with one more -

"The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority."
Ralph W. Sockman (1889 - )

Hey Sue - Where the heck are you? I've been waiting since Saturday for your arrival to share the Guavaberry Pina Colada's

Seriously, thanks for your perspective. If not for your (and others) attempt to keep it in perspective, I probably wouldn't have taken that cruise that DH and I enjoyed so very much after never having a vacation without the kids. For some (I'm guilty), it's important to have alot of positive with negative (valid or not)...helps the panic attacks that maybe we booked the "wrong" cruise. I'm learning quick as a "newbie". Thanks also for your encouragement in booking my next cruise...I finally bit the bullet and just booked it...taking my son and daughter on their first cruise and looking forward to it!

Hi Sue. I have been reading these boards for about 2 yrs or more now, and even post a question once in awhile when I get brave. I have gotten good information from this board and from you !!! I have enjoyed my cruise experience more because of you and people on this board like you. THANK YOU
I must have missed something , I saw nothing offensive in any of your posts. I am glad you will still be here to help those of us who need your expertise. You Go Girl. Hi Sue,

I joined around the same time as you. I usually only post when I feel I can add something or if I have a question of my own. I spend alot of time here when I'm planning a cruise or researching a new cruise.

I have found the information on this board to be invaluable to me when planning cruises/excursions. When I do give advice I am only doing so in an honest effort to help someone as I have been helped so many times before.

I find it very sad the way the attitutes have gotten around here lately. I was bashed myself a couple of months ago by a "newbie" to the board. The comments made were so downright nasty and ridiculous, I was convinced I was dealing with a troll. I was floored and had to force myself to not respond (well Ok, I responded once and it only got worse). I ran into that poster on a different forum (other then Princess) and luckily they are a fan of another cruiseline so I have not had any further contacts.

I sincerely hope that things get better around here when we get the search function back. Then hopefully we won't have as many of the hot topic posts being brought up repeatedly. If you are a "newbie" reading this please don't think I am putting you down, I am not. I think that some of us are just a little leary when we see new posters with negative attitudes.

I myself on MANY occasions over the past few years spent time researching answers for questions here as others have done for me. I don't do it for some kind of bragging right that I have all the answers, I only do it in an effort to be helpfull. But yes, it does start getting old when you take the time to help someone and they never even respond back that they read the answer. That's how this board started, with people sharing information and just being helpfull to each other.

OK, I'm getting off my soapbox now as yes I do have a life . Sue, don't go anywhere you are still loved by many of us.

"But what could I possibly know about such things. I'm a newbie and I find all this personal investment quite mysterious; the subject here is simply trying to have a great vacation, isn't it?" - LunaMoon

Personal investment? Luna, have you ever stopped for a moment and thought, gee isn't it wonderful that technology can now put people together who enjoy "talking" via email or forums. Some of these people would otherwise lead a very sad existance in their wheelchairs or beds. I, for one, am glad to be able to communicate via methods like this one. You are very much correct and the subject is for everyone to have a great vacation. Now how did Margeaux help that in such a negative manner. She could have told us much more of the fun times and said these are the things that she did not like. We all do that. Just ask me what I think of the coffee - go ahead, make my day. Sue,

How true! Additionally, I've been around awhile and I don't recall you having ever bragged about the number of your posts!

Donia,

VERY well said. I could not agree more. The most recent comments have been exceptionally inflammatory. I just don't get it.

I didn't. I specifically made a point that they didn't matter, cause when the blue ribbon holders were going to lose theirs, I respected the hard work they put into that many posts. Not a biggie, I am not on here to make them happy anyway. I am here cause it makes me happy!!!

Newbies will always be around. It is great to see this community growing--more members = more info, right? However, there are those who hide behind a new member name to post inflammatory comments, not to inform or advise or even to vent, but to stir up the hornet's nest. Posts that are all negative and give no detail are immediately suspect. If that poster is new, we have no basis by which to judge their comments as we do with more experienced posters. If Sue D says she had a bad cruise, she knows that she has to give detail to back it up. If I have reason to doubt her account, I can read her many other posts to see if she is a habitual complainer or if she had unrealistic expectations or what her attitude in general is. I can't do that with a newbie.

Perhaps the board moderators here can take note of this thread and the response it has gotten. Perhaps it's time for a board devoted to posts like Sue's. Folks can post their cruise resumes, what's important to them in a cruise, and so on. Others can respond, as they did here, to validate or point out contradictions in other posts. For example, anyone who reads a post of Sue's and isn't sure how to take it, could go to the new board, find her post, and read first hand accounts from supporters & detractors. Who knows, that may reduce the amount of flaming that happens on the other boards.

SueSea, I have done that many times. Your idea was much better than mine!! I knew I had friends here, but admit to an emotional response to this. I did NOT expect it. When each of us posts a reply here, serious or funny, it will be judged by posters world wide. We are like a cruisers United Nations!! I had a horrible urge to respond to a post that had my name on it, to tell them exactly what I accomplish in a course of a day, and still be here, "where I belong" Lucky for all of you that I didn't!! I would be posting funny, and it would have been taken as whining. That is the only thing that stopped me from doing it. I will say here, how stunned I was, that I really had some importance here. You cannot "see" who you are talking to. No eye contact. Right now, I feel I am the luckiest girl on earth, honestly, to have friends from all over the world. I have even gotten a "best buddy" Steve". He doesn't have to feel the same way, lucky for us because of this "sterile screen" we have anonimity, he just makes me comfortable, and I love his humor. You just don't have it, if you are not comfortable enough to laugh at yourself.

"best buddy" Steve how very sweet Sue. You have many people posting here on your behalf, the body of your work speaks for itself, as I hope mine does as well.

I am somewhat convinced that these new screen names are the work of a vast Right-Oar conspiracy. I bet it is one person, who creats a new name just to post the drivel and then move on. A Johnny rotten seed.

Sue D. Miller...this is my 10th post and I'm waiting for your cheerful "welcome aboard". (Seriously!)

I have been reading posts here after accidently finding the board while searching for reviews of the Caribbean Princess. Y'all certainly do have an interesting way of communicating. As a very, very newbie I was taken aback by quite a few posted responses (not indicating you) and I'm still trying to keep an open mind as I read both the pleasant and unpleasant. It took quite a while before I would consider registering but here I am.

I just had to add my "hello" to you and to say that I have written down a number of helpful tips you and your friends have posted. Surprisingly, some of the less than enjoyable cruise experieces have caused us to add little side notes to our cruise plans that will remind us that bad things can happen to good people.

One other thing: you are sailing on my birthday and I am insanely jealous. Have a wonderful time and know that I will be thinking of you as you depart.

Hi beachnative. Welcome to Princess! !! Glad to have you. We are kinda like a new board now, with all the same wonderful people her, with a better outlook on ourselves as well as newbies. Just jump right in and ask questions, give us hell, whatever you need, we are here. One tip: keep an open mind. We are serious about cruising. We all love it. We laugh, cry, and help together. We are a pretty tight group, and now you are part of it. Welcome aboard!!
