burnsrod1 Posted September 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2017 Can you load the E-Gift Cards into your sail and sign card by the number only while on board or do you have to have the physical card that needs to be scanned?
Gypsywych Posted September 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2017 The E gift cards come as an email. Just print out the paper and take it with you. You can either put it on your account at Guest Services or punch in the numbers at one of the kiosks. Physical gift cards need to be present to be scanned either at guest services or the kiosk. ddlb Posted September 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2017 When I got mine from AARP last week (they now seem to be plentiful and before they always mailed you the card and you paid for the postage) it was a bit confusing to me. I got the email confirmation that I bought them - then another email that I thought would have the card id and pin but it had a link THEN after clicking on the link I got the infomation to print with that had the card id and pin. Also I was hoping I could add it to my S&S before boarding using my TA but was told no you have to be on board to do that - but I understand now sometimes you can add it on when you are checking in - sometimes the kiosks are nit working but you can always get in line at CS to have it added to your S&S. I could not apply them to my booking fee as I had to use a credit card based on the TA I booked through.
firemanbobswife Posted September 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2017 (edited) You just need the number and PIN. I have presented an egift card on my phone to GS to have added to my account. If you want it to show on your account before you get onboard you can purchase Cruise Cash through the FunShops. Make sure it's the general kind though. mdsgu Posted September 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 9, 2017 I just bought some eGift Cards on AARP. If I buy Cruise Cash with them, that money becomes non-refundable? If I wait and add them to my S&S account onboard, is it nonrefundable? I only ask because I added money to my onboard account on NCL this past summer, and I actually ended up getting about $150 back from them because I didn't use it all. I'm past my final payment for the Carnival cruise, so I can't use them to bring down my balance.

However this is easily avoided by loading any remaining balance on to your casino account, playing some slots then cashing out at the cage just like you would once you put the GCs on your account. Difference being if you don't spend all your GCs they will mail you another GC or sometimes depending who you get at GS, they may give you some cash back but that's not a given. Ziggy7 Posted September 9, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 9, 2017 Gift cards are completely refundable, but Cash cards are not, so cash out in the casino if you have any balances!
firemanbobswife Posted September 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2017 Gift cards are completely refundable, but Cash cards are not, so cash out in the casino if you have any balances! They technically can't be refunded for cash, but another GC can be issued. Thats why you cash out in the casino for GCs too.
iamalmond Posted September 10, 2017 #9 Share Posted September 10, 2017 So if I'm reading this right, at the kiosk I can punch in the gift card # and PIN from an e-gift card? I have physical gift cards that have the number and PIN on the back. Could I just get those numbers and punch them in too? Or do they have to be swiped, etc.? I'm going to take pics of the physical cards with my phone just in case I forget or misplace them.

On two occasions Carnival has sent me a check a week after our cruise with a balance we had remaining from using strictly GC. It is easier to cash out in the casino, but Carnival will just send you a check rather than issue a new GC.

Don't automatically assume they will send a check. Technically they are supposed to send a GC. And they will.
