Key/room swap?

theres 4 of us sailing on Horizon out of Barcelona (me, hubby and my 2 kids). My daughter is only 19 so can't book her in her own room. I was going to put hubby and 1 kid in one room and me and other kid in the other room. Haven't decided to do balcony/inside across the hall or 2 connecting balconies (if they are connecting rooms, can the balcony open to be one huge one?) price difference is only $1000 more. Can we do a room/key swap once onboard since kids will have one room, us the other

Just go to guest services when you board and have your keys and they will redo them for you no issues. We do this when we cruise with our elderly parents to assure they can get priority boarding with us. Just let them know which two are swapping rooms.

 

Balcony doors will be hit or miss. Some do, some don't. Most part the answer is most often no as opening door will actually cover the room entry door.

I only drink like 1/2 drinks a day bc we have free drinks card in casino (free cruise from casino)... if I buy the cheers package for hubby on his room(paying for everything before cruise) if we switch keys will I be forced to buy the cheers package since it says both adults in room must have it?

no, you will only be charged for the number of people in room over 21 at time of purchase. when you go to guest services to get extra keys, that is really all you are doing;) , getting extra keys, you are not "really" switching rooms. :confused:

I think this depends on exactly what you want, and what you ask guest services to do.

 

Yes, you can ask for an extra entry key to another room, or you can actually switch people in the room. What this means is.

 

Asking only for entry keys:

If you are in one room with one of your children, and your husband is in the other with your other child. Your husband would need to ask for an entry key to your room, the child in your room would have to ask for an extra entry key to your 2nd room. Your husband and the child booked in your room would both have 2 cards to carry. Since the original key opens the originally assigned door you would end up with a scenario where you would have one card to carry that opened only your door and as your sail and sign card for purchases, your husband would have two to carry, his original sail and sign card to use on board for charging and that would open your 2nd room door, and then another one that only opened your room door. The child originally booked in your room would have two to carry as well, their originally assigned sail and sign to use for charging and would open your room door and the second card that acted only as a key for the other room. The 2nd child in the other room would have only one sail and sign to charge with and open the 2nd cabin door.

 

Actually switching rooms:

Now, if you actually ask to switch rooms.... which is what we do. They will rekey your original sail and sign cards to make them correct for the correct room only. So you and your husband would have 1 card that opened only your door and you can charge with, and your kids would each have only 1 card that opened only their door and that they could charge with.

 

If you plan on getting the beverage package though, you may have to stick with the just getting extra entry key option as I am not sure if you actually have them switch the rooms once on board "how" they would apply this to the two adults together now - never had cheers package so can't answer this. The extra keys are a bit of pain, but in your case may be the best route.

Once you are onboard, Carnival will not force you to buy additional Cheers packages if you move occupants to different rooms.

 

Even if you change your Sign & Sail cards

I always get a room for my teenage kids separate from ours. If they are under 18 they have to be within 3 doors to your cabin. If over 18 they can be anywhere as long as you book the rooms in one booking. But if you only want to pay for your hubbys cheers package then it's best to each take a kid in your room initially. Then ask for extra keys

Kids are 19/14... There is no way I will ever drink $50 a day :/ so booking each of us with a kid might be the best option and then switching rooms once on board. Hubby would get confused with the keys!!!! Thanks everyone! I can't believe I get to go to Europe!!!!
