San Antonio, Chile

NCL has moved this year's port of call for Santiago, Chile from Valparaiso to San Antonio.

I understand this is new for NCL--does anyone have experience with San Antonio from sailings on other lines?

Specifically, how and where guides pick up pax, including pax with luggage (we disembark here).

It reads like a very industrial port. (I'm envisioning Livorno or Piraeus in my mind.)

Our guide is coming from Valparaiso to meet us (hurrah!), but he doesn't have familiarity with San Antonio either.

Thanks.

(...and now I'm off to re-post this in the S. America forum...)

I as on the Sun reposition in may which used the same port. It was the first time ever a cruise ship was there. NCL changed from Valparaiso mainly because the risk of strikes in that port.

it is a big container port, you have to take a bus from the port entrance to the ship, in may they did not have any terminal building. The ones who boarded there made their check in on board.

We were b2b from Buenos Aires.

Once you left the port area it was a very short, quite pretty, walk to the city center. With a big, modern shopping center, a seafood market, some sea lions and everything you can imagine along the way (10 minutes walk)

A lot of people were picked up at the port gate with private taxis and vans after disembarkation there.
