krugs006@gmail.com Posted December 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 22, 2017 We are considering the Cozumel Bar Hop but are curious about just grabbing a cab and heading over to the "Other Side". Are cabs readily available on the East Side? How much should a cab cost for 2 peeps from Downtown? Any recommendations on restaurants/bars? I wouldn’t recommend relying on picking up a taxi on on the east side with the time constraints of a cruise ship day. Waiting taxis are not as numerous on that side and cell service can be spotty. Better to hire a taxi from the pier and settle on a rate with the driver for a number of hours and have him wait at the stops - prices are listed at the pier. Cozumel Bar Hop works out as an good alternative if there are only two in your party, especially if you are not sure of where you want to go. You would need to first catch a taxi into town if you dock at Puerta Maya or International but you will be dropped off at your pier on return. You can stop wherever you want. I would definitely recommend a stop at the Mojito Factory, some of the best drinks on the island.
JohninDC Posted December 31, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2017 If you do not want to rent a car or do the bar hop tour I would suggest renting a cab by the hour -- you'll need about 2-3 hours to get to the east side, see and stop at a few spots, and get back. Hourly rates for cabs are posted on the fare board - the rates cover up to 4 passengers in the cab, so see if you can pair up with others from your roll call. Good luck! :)
