Post Cruise - Ostia Antica - Car Rental

I have spent a lot of time using the search feature and reading up on choices and options.

 

We are staying at the Airport Hilton for one night post cruise -flying to Paris at 10am.

 

We are staying in Rome for 3 nights pre cruise - so will have spent a good deal of time sightseeing in Rome itself.

 

We are looking into visiting Ostia Antica. It seems that renting a car and returning to airport is very doable and we are leaning toward this as it seems to be less expensive than just getting a private transfer.

How easy/difficult is getting to the rental agencies from the ship with luggage?

Are Eurocar and Avis the 2 closest to port exit?

Would you keep luggage in car or drop off at hotel before going Ostia Antica?

Are there any other nearby sites you would consider adding to day?

I haven't rented a car at FCO in a long, long time. The only comment I have is YES, drop off your luggage at the hotel before going to Ostia.

After visiting Ostia Antica go to the town of Ostia. It has some nice restaurants and it is much more pleasant than hanging around the Hilton!
