Looking for recommendations please . Taking a cruise from la in October 19 and staying over the night before. We are meeting up with friends in west Hollywood for dinner. Should we get hotel close to them or to the cruise terminal? Either way any recommendations for affordable but not mega bucks hotels please?

Either way your going to have long drive/ Personally I would stay near the airport and use Uber or Lyft for your travel requirements.

Probably requires a bit more information.

I take it you are arriving that day at LAX? What time?

Do your friends live in West Hollywood? Or is West Hollywood the decided meeting place and dinner location?

How are you planning on getting around LA? (Makes a difference if you will have a rental car versus depending on Uber, shuttles, taxis, etc.)

Assuming you are arriving sometime midday on the 18th (a Thursday), driving (or getting a ride) from LAX to San Pedro, checking in to a hotel, then driving to West Hollywood for dinner, then driving back to San Pedro would be an excessive amount of time spent on the freeways...and a whole lot of traffic...

Some more reasonable options:

1) If you use a rental car, you could put the luggage in the car, drive to West Hollywood, hang out there through dinner, then, after dinner, drive down to San Pedro, check into a hotel there and turn the car in the morning of the cruise.

2) If you don't take a rental car, you could Uber (or shuttle) to West Hollywood, check into a hotel there, go to dinner and then get an Uber (or shuttle) to the pier in the morning...

3) If West Hollywood and dinner there is not set in stone and your friends are willing to drive a little to meet you for dinner, you could get a hotel a little closer to the airport (say Marina del Rey--where there are a lot of good restaurant choices and the ride from the airport is short), have your friends come meet you there, then take an Uber or shuttle to the pier in the morning...

In San Pedro, Sunrise Hotel, rental car in almost next door --Hertz, get Hertz at Lax and drop off in San Pedro, or take super shuttle to San Pedro, and get a rental for 24 hours only 25.00 or 30.00.
