beshears Posted March 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2018 We will be in Belize City. What/where is the closest place to do any shopping?
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Right at the tender pier. There's a small craft market across from the pier complex. And a couple of stores along Fort Street toward the swing bridge and water taxi terminal. Across the swing bridge into "downtown" Belize City, you'll find Brodies, a kind of general department store with various merchandise.
beshears Posted March 7, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Thank you for your answer. I have a question. You mentioned "swing bridge." Is this a bridge that we can walk across, or is it only for vehicles to cross? You say it leads to downtown Belize. I know this is only YOUR opinion, but is it worth checking out the downtown area? Rare crewsweeper Posted March 7, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Yes you can walk across the swing bridge. It's similar to a drawbridge over a river except it swings open to one side. Downtown, is basically a business district. But if you walk down Albert Street a few blocks, you'll come to the oldest Anglican Church in Central America and across the street is the of Governors mansion, now a cultural museum with lots of Victorian and pre colonial exhibits. It's the building you see on the tender in with the cannons and old yacht in the yard.

Rare crewsweeper Posted March 7, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Link o an interactive map:http://www.cruiseportinsider.com/belizemaps.html When you zoom in, you'll see the St John's Anglican Church. down Albert Street. Lots of pictures at various angles here: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/belize-swing-bridge.html And I apologize, the swing is from the middle not the ends.
