Rare Eglesbrech Posted March 9, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2018 I would be interested to hear any views about the Grill and Poolside on Balmoral in particular (or on other ships if they have them). Was the meal, service etc worth the supplement?
AnnieC Posted March 9, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2018 We used the Grill a couple of times in January. Food good, service excellent It's more good pub restaurant standard than fine dining, so we thought the supplement pretty hefty. The food is certainly better than in the MDR, but it would be quite a feat if it were worse:D
Rare Eglesbrech Posted March 9, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted March 9, 2018 Thanks, that's interesting. Yes £20 a head extra is a lot if it's just pub grub. I thought it might be like the Epicurian on P&O or Quzine etc on Celebrity. The menu looks ok but then menus often do until you see the food on the table. AnnieC Posted March 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2018 To be fair it's a notch above standard pub grub - good pub food is more like it.
Pugwash123 Posted March 9, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2018 We tried the grill on Braemar. It was nothing special and not worth the extra. Also the waiter fussed around us too much.
Coravel Posted March 9, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2018 All the Olsen ships have pay restaurants but I've not tried any of them because they always seem empty. Something else I noticed last time we went on the Black Watch is that during a 25 night cruise, there was not one Indian, Chinese, Thai or Italian evening. They used to be hugely popular evenings. Rare Eglesbrech Posted May 25, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted May 25, 2018 Does anyone know if they do any special offers in the restaurants eg on the first night onboard? On P&O for instance they offer a bolts of wine or a discount, do Fred do the same?

Rare Eglesbrech Posted June 10, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted June 10, 2018 Well we tried the grill out and it was like the Curates egg, good in parts. The service was dead slow and stop as the restaurant was full for the sail along the Kiel canal. The wine service was even worse, we sat through the starter with not wine and sent back the Sauternes as we had finished dessert by the time it eventually came. The food was pleasant, the surf and turf tasty. Probably would not bother again however a nice enough evening.
