suggestions?

DH, kids and I went on the Statendam to Alaska this past summer and it was such a great trip for all of us, I am thinking of what would be our next cruise. Hawaii sounds pretty interesting. We really like the Statendam for a lot of reasons, so are interested in that size and "low-key" type of ship. We don't want to sail from CA, though, as it is just too long. Any suggestions on other lines/ships that do a 7 day cruise around the islands that would be similar to our Statendam experience?

If you are looking for a 7-day, NCL's "Pride of . . ." series does the best job. Since they do not have to sail to/from a "distant foreign port" you get to maximize your time on the islands. NCLA are pretty low key and since you are spending the bulk of your time in port, they downplay alot of the cruise experience stuff. The ships are not plush by any means, but are nice enough. Don't know how the POAl or POAm stack up against the Statendam.

 

PS - Just FYI - we've done three to a room (where the 3rd was our 10YO DD) - just bearly enough room (it is a good thing we all like each other!).

Onessa is right. Only NCL's America line (that's the Pride of... ships) is allowed to do the 7-day Hawaii only itinerary. Otherwise, you are looking at cruising the Pacific from the West coast. Best bet would be to check out the NCL website and the NCL forum here.

We have a CC group cruise on Pride of America next summer - 6/10 - we would love to have you join us!! We leave and return from Honolulu, the itinerary is great - lots of time to explore the islands. Pride of America was brand new this summer and has had time to work out some of the "kinks". If you would like more info, or are interested, be sure to let me know!!
