Rare Peachypooh Posted March 27, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2018 We are looking at an itinerary leaving out of Miami. We can get first class air on our own from where we live for aprox. $800 per person. I saw in the fine print that upgrades from coach using Viking air was over $2,000 per person? Why so much? Does it include a hotel stay?
Twitchly Posted March 27, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2018 I don’t know where you’re bound, but $800 for first class sounds like a steal!
Rare Peachypooh Posted March 28, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted March 28, 2018 I don’t know where you’re bound, but $800 for first class sounds like a steal! We fly out of XNA (Northwest Arkansas) and most first class air if bought early enough to any other city in the US is that price. The only exceptions are Hawaii or if we need to get to an out of the way regional airport that needs several connections (like McArthur on Long Island) Flying to Europe is much ore than that. Richard2 Posted March 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 28, 2018 I believe the issue is that you are looking for an upgrade that Viking does not do (Arkansas to Miami). The $2000+ upgrades to Business Class on Viking are available for "select itineraries" and involve a transoceanic flight. It is noted that the connecting flights within the US may be in coach in any case.

Rare molemaui Posted March 28, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2018 Just my opinion-you're AWAYS better controlling your own air. No deviation fees, no extra fees for secondary airports, choose your own airline without extra fee, etc. If there's a problem, you're in a much better position to look at options. In most but not all cases, you come pretty close or even beat cruise air. Big issue us when air is "free".
