KKAY1126 Posted April 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2018 We are 21 days away from sailing. We're booked in an inside sail away rate cabin. We bid for an upgrade to either ocean view or balcony. When I check NCL, it looks like the only ocean views left are the sail away rates, but there are balconies available in all categories. I also noticed that the rate for the inside sail away has gone up twice since we booked. I'm not sure what any of this means, but I'm hoping it means we are in a good position to be upgraded to a balcony? Anyone have any insight? Thanks! DarkJedi Posted April 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2018 It all depends on how much you bid, what others bid, what their Latitudes is vs your's, how many different cabins are available the week of sailing, how many people in ocean views bid to upgrade to balconies, how many balconies bid to upgrade to mini-suites, how many mini's upgrade to full suites, ect. Basically, your chances are about the same now as they were when you placed your last bid.
Shidah Posted April 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2018 There is no way to know. Some people feel Latitudes levels matter, some don't. It likely depends on first if rooms are not booked, and then who offered the most. But again, no one knows for sure. I feel that people get their hopes inflated by reading these boards, and reading about people who won their bids. In reality, a very small portion of the bids will be accepted. I made it a point in discussions with people on my last cruise to ask if anyone was successful in an upgrade bid. And no one was. If a certain room is that important to you, it is best to pay for the upgrade outright.
DarkJedi Posted April 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2018 If a certain room is that important to you, it is best to pay for the upgrade outright. And there is the winning answer. Bidding is just throwing it out there on the off hand chance you can get the room for a lot cheaper than normal fare. We put in a bid for the GV from an aft suite. Cost difference direct would have been almost $24,000, the bid was for $3,600. We get it great! If not, I just don't get the jacuzzi, not a big deal.
