Freeport-Rental car and explore on our own- Has anyone does this?

Hi All!

 

We are going to be in Freeport late September, and were thinking of renting a car at the port, and touring the island on our own. There will be 5 adults in our group, and I am the only one who has been there before, or even cruised before!!

 

I need suggestions for places to visit while we are there! I know we are going to Lucayan National Park and Gold Rock Beach, but need other ideas for not to miss sights! We will be in port for 7 hours, so we have plenty of time!

We have rented a car in Freeport, but we were staying on the island for a couple of days, so had a lot of time to explore.

 

We went to Lucayan National Park and Gold Rock Beach, which I am happy to see that is your plan as well. We really enjoyed our time there. The beach is amazing and it was void of any tourist crowds; low tide is the best time. The underwater caverns at the park are very cool. You can certainly spend a leisurely day there, as it takes some time to get there from Freeport, explore, and then get back.

 

Only because we had a lot of time, we also took a drive over to West End, the capital. There is a lovely marina and restaurant there, and we stayed there for sunset. Most likely you will not have the opportunity for sunset as you have to get back to the ship.

Thank you! We were in Freeport several years ago on a cruise and did a jeep excursion. We went to the caverns, but didn't get to go across to Gold Rock beach, so that is definitely a high point for us. I am so excited, and can't wait for this trip!
