Rare MaryBethV Posted May 26, 2018 Author #102 Share Posted May 26, 2018 Thank you, silly question but do you know if the tuna salad is albacore Sorry - no clue on that. No one in our family ordered it. What do you think was the cause of your digestion issues? This has been the subject of much debate. We travel with disinfectant wipes -- use them in the plane, on armrests at the airport, to wipe down hotel rooms and our stateroom on the ship. That to say, I don't think it is something we all touched. My guess is it is something we ALL ate or drank... which leads me to think that the most likely culprit was the ice in our punch/rum punch on the boat in Roatan. The rum and punch came right out of bottles. The water we had was bottled water. We did eat a bean/soft shell taco... but it came from an actual restaurant that looked clean/nice. The only other thing we all ate that day was chocolate and, well, I just plain refuse to blame chocolate. :') So I'm back to the ice. Not sure by any means - but that is my best guess. Rare MaryBethV Posted May 26, 2018 Author #103 Share Posted May 26, 2018 Thanks for taking the time to do this review! DW and I will be on Getaway in October. First cruise, Can't wait! Have fun! Our first cruise was just this February on the Escape - such a great trip. :) No, not just you. I always bring my own pillow If I can ever get my over-packing habit under control so that there is room in my suitcase - I will bring my own pillow as well. cruisegal415 Posted May 26, 2018 #104 Share Posted May 26, 2018 Have fun! Our first cruise was just this February on the Escape - such a great trip. :) If I can ever get my over-packing habit under control so that there is room in my suitcase - I will bring my own pillow as well. I always just carry my pillow with me on the plane. It’s good behind my back, under my neck or against the window wall. Take an extra pillowcase in your suitcase to use when actually sleeping in bed. Rare calicakes Posted May 26, 2018 #105 Share Posted May 26, 2018 I do that exact same thing too. My spouse takes a window seat and uses my pillow on the plane. I bring an extra pillow case too. Rare calicakes Posted May 26, 2018 #106 Share Posted May 26, 2018 Thanks so much for the daily menus. Our previous 3 cruises( the only cruises we've ever taken) have been on Celebrity. We sailed in Aqua Class which has its own special restaurant with innovative cuisine. Celebrity told us during a kitchen tour, that they spend $$ per guest on food that most of the other cruise lines( luxury cruise lines excluded). We're leaving on June 10th. Our package included 3 specialty restaurants. We have the dinner show booked as one of them, Ocean Blue( I'm most excited about this) and Cagney's. We're a same sex married couple traveling with our friends( husband/wife and their son). The son is 17 and hopefully will enjoy the teen club. I've heard good things about the food on Celebrity and I've been checking out their new ship - the Edge. Super tempting! I hope you can let us know how your upcoming Norwegian cruise goes and what you think of the food. Hopefully your friend's son will enjoy the teen lounge. On our cruise it seemed that the older kids didn't go early in the week because of all the younger kids there... but they warmed up to it later in the week and actually met some great friends that they are still keeping in contact with daily. So, if he doesn't like it right away - encourage him to pop back in now and then!
gamecockmom Posted May 26, 2018 #108 Share Posted May 26, 2018 Loving this review !!! We were on the Getaway in 2014 then the Escape in 2016 & 2017. Rare calicakes Posted May 26, 2018 #109 Share Posted May 26, 2018 I'm in the process of reading your other cruise review. Was the food included in the private island? I'm pretty sure its not included on this Getaway itinerary.

I'm pretty sure its not included on this Getaway itinerary. Yes - the food (and drinks with the UBP) on Great Stirrup Cay was included on our Escape cruise. That was so nice and made the day so relaxing!!! Food & drinks on Harvest Caye is NOT included. We just brought our water bottles and then went back to the ship for a late lunch. Not that I'm opposed to purchasing food/drink on the island - we just didn't feel the need to. I'd have to say that even though Harvest Caye is more developed and has an amazing pool - we much preferred Great Stirrup Cay. The fact that it had better sand and clear water + food & drinks included made it the clear favorite for us.
Rare MaryBethV Posted May 26, 2018 Author #112 Share Posted May 26, 2018 Thursday, May 10th | Costa Maya, Mexico We didn't really have any plans for Costa Maya, so we all slept in. We woke up next to the MSC Armonia... and we couldn't help but stare and look for signs of her little run in with the pier in Roatan. DH and I went to the buffet for breakfast where I struck out once again in my search for eggs benedict. I saw other people with them, but could never find them. I'm not a fan of their scrambled eggs - so I went to the omelet line and ordered 2 eggs over medium. Real eggs and croissants with coffee and I'm a happy camper. Around noon we managed to convince youngest son and oldest son to go with us to the cruise port. Goodness, this pier is long! Good thing stunning water views in every direction are there to distract you along the way. Looking back- Getting closer-
Rare MaryBethV Posted May 26, 2018 Author #113 Share Posted May 26, 2018 The pool. It was packed and there were no open lounge chairs. This end was playing super loud music I'd put in the 'gansta' category. So we got in the pool and walked to the other end. The bar and the other side of the pool were also playing music. You could stand there and hear all three different 'songs' being played at once. Call me crazy - but not my idea of vacationing. Other people obviously had different opinions than us on that though and seemed to be having fun. We did get to watch the dolphin trainers interact with the dolphins for a little bit - very cool. Standing by the dolphin area and looking back the other way at the pool.
Rare MaryBethV Posted May 26, 2018 Author #114 Share Posted May 26, 2018 Why oh why do I never leave any room in my luggage for souvenirs!? Heading back to the ship- DH and I headed up to Spice H2O for a pina colada and relaxed in the grotto for a little while, then went up to the buffet for lunch. After that, what else - but a quick nap. My fav. We woke up to sail away announcements and headed to the Sugercane Mojito Bar for a Pineapple Coconut Mojito and a Rum Punch. So good! Rare calicakes Posted May 26, 2018 #115 Share Posted May 26, 2018 I don't recall if you addressed the cigarette smoke issue that I've read about on previous reviews. IIRC, one guest wrote that it was the worst he's ever experienced on a cruise. I believe he also mentioned a lot of drunk people and a scuffle or two. Yes the smoke is bad in the casino but no worse than on cruises on other ships we have sailed on. There were quite a few people who were maximizing their enjoyment of the UBP but no excess rowdiness or any scuffles that we saw.
Rare MaryBethV Posted May 26, 2018 Author #118 Share Posted May 26, 2018 La Cucina for dinner - Blagica from Macedonia was our server. Let’s just say that she ROCKED, as did the other servers/assistants. We truly felt like family at a family Italian restaurant and we were totally spoiled from start to finish. They took the time to interact with our kids, tease the 14yo who ate about 2 loaves of the delicious warm bread all by herself, and overall made us feel completely welcome. Even when said child was too full from bread and didn’t want to order a main dish -- Blagica brought her one and we all passed it around. There wasn’t a sub-par dish the entire meal. I am just so happy, even now, thinking back to this memorable family meal that we were able to have. Thankful! Apologies in advance for some blurry photos. The dark ambiance of the restaurant was lovely, but my iPhone camera was not a fan.
