From La Spezia, you can hop on a train to any of the villages. It is a quick ride. You can get a day pass for the train and the hiking trails, so you can hop between the villages. It all depends how much time you have. It is beautiful there, we just got back, however we were not there off a ship. I was not a fan of La Spezia, so personally I would march straight to the train station and get to the villages once off the ship. You can also take a boat/ferry from La Spezia but it depends on the time of year.

We took a boat trip to Portovenere and onto cirque Terre, with an hour and half in Vernazzo. Round boat trip was nearly 4 hours, depends how much time you have here. Would recommend this as a way to see the towns and coast.
