joyride Posted June 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2004 We get pretty good sushi here in the SF Bay Area, so my hubby wants to know - how good is the sushi on the ship? <BODY> Joyride View my pictures at: http://community.webshots.com/user/jverette CELEBRITY CONSTELLATION SO. brigittetom Posted June 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Sorry, we live in the South and I learned to make my own sushi. We cruised on the Zenith and I thought the Sushi selection was fantastic. I've read comments that were not as enthusiastic but I missed 3 dinners on a 14 day cruise because I couldn't resist the sushi. Enjoy. MsBWing Posted June 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Not an expert myself, but I went to the sushi bar on Summit and Constellation with various others and they were all well pleased.
ArtM Posted June 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Can't speak for the Connie, but we hit the sushi bar on our recent Infinity cruise. There seemed to be a pretty good size crowd there during the 6 PM to 8 PM period when it was open. I am not a sushi connoisseur, so my opinion that it was tasty probably has little significance. What did impress me was that everything was very fresh and seemed to have just the right texture and moisture level. As someone who loves fish, any off-taste at all would have gotten my attention immediately. The sauce for the shrimp sushi is great; it really gets one's attention. Island2Girl Posted June 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Hi Joyride, We live about 10 miles from you. So, I know what you mean about good sushi. We were on the Connie in April. The sushi was better than Safeway . Not quite the quality we get in restaurants here, but it was very good. The atmosphere is great, eating sushi on the aft deck makes up for all else.

stephy1 Posted June 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 11, 2004 I was on the Constellation in December and the sushi was very good. I'm a huge sushi fan, it's not as good as some high priced restaurants, but I wasn't complaining. They have a pretty good selection. It was fresher at the beginning of the cruise, but even so it was very good. Lsimon Posted June 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2004 tofubeast: No charge for the Sushi. I think they had the Sushi bar open on the Summit cruise (March '04) every evening from 6 to 7:30 or something like that. This could be dinner or a snack. it was at the back of the Waterfal cafe - just inside the outdoor seating area, where they had nice music and a bar in the evenings, and on the opposite side from the casual dinner dining area. So in addition to eating by the sushi bar itself you could take a tray outside or if eating in the casual dining you could take some as your appetizer too. There was no charge for ANY food on Summit, other than the Normandie dining room which had a $25 or $30 upcharge per person.
yvrdave Posted June 12, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2004 The Sushi Cafe is open from 6 - 10 pm. We thought it was pretty good but would have eaten there if they also had some miso soup and green tea ice cream for desert. There is a small charge for the Casual Dining supposedly for the extra service, but the food reviews were mixed. joyride Posted June 13, 2004 Author #13 Share Posted June 13, 2004 Thanks everyone! Island2Girl - your "better than Safeway" comment really cracked us up. We haven't ever bought the sushi at Safeway - but a new one just opened here in Brentwood and the Sushi looks pretty good. I think we need to give it a try - at least in a pinch!!! Besides the sushi, they also have rolls available. If memory serves me correct, they had California, Tuna, Salmon, eel, and a few other rolls. No sashimi, edamame or other Japanese food was alvailable, but the sushi selection was very, very nice. We eat a lot of sushi (definitely sushi snobs) here in Miami and the sushi on the Summit was good. Not great...but surpassed our expectations. No ponsu or kimchee sauce was available on the side either, but there was light and regular soy sauce on every table and the standard ginger and wasabe. Hope this info helps and enjoy your upcoming cruise!
