Furr, also, the missing amigo could have gone to the room to place the room service order. That would explain the count escorting DH back to his cabin for the last time, at 3 rather than 4. It would also explain how room service got them their food so quickly...and Josh was expected to join them after they took DH back to his room.

 

I could see them saying it's almost dawn, let's shut it down for the night. One of us will order food for our munchies (college age kids remember) and the others will take DH home. The one ordering doesn't know what anyone wants, so he orders a ton....Alternatively, he may have thought that DH would return with the amigos if wife was still MIA...:confused:

As far as the timeline, if (and that's still not confirmed) there was an RCI employee with them, I'd believe his recollection of the timeframes as he would likely be well aware that any comments he made would be traceable. The late night fuzzies may have gotten to Clete. He knew it was late, but maybe is not as accurate on the timing as he thinks he is. Also, did any of the tabloid talkers, ask if the "gang" heard banging from neighbours and brought the noise level down on purpose? One more, has anyone, i.e. talk show host, lawyer, Smith, JHS asked and/or commented on when the FBI will be concluding their investigation?

Fury, that may explain a much earlier comment about there being a grand jury involved...it's the rape charge not the death of the DH. In all of this, I don't know whose laws will be appropriate given where the incident happened....that should be informative.

 

Recognizing there's no Grand Jury in a civil trial --- couldn't the woman sue the US citizens in a US civil court for the rape (trauma etc.)? If I'm remembering correctly, the 'Russians' are US citizens, right? Also, Italy declined to prosecute, right? (may not be the right words, but they didn't think they had enough to constitute a crime, right?)

 

I really enjoy the analysis of the posters on this topic --- I don't believe it diminishes the tragedy, but does serve as an interesting study of our media, laws etc. To the 'Usual Posters' on this topic: Thanks for all of your hard work in looking stuff up etc.! :o

I find Josh's role in this case intriguing. Why would he specifically state that he "used the facilities" while the others put GS to bed? Could it be that the FBI/others may have found trace evidence from him in the restroom, and Josh knew it might implicate him? And just in case, lets throw out the ole shifting the sights of investigators to someone else - the casino manager, perhaps, that way I won't look so suspicious when defending JHS so vehemently.........................

I agree.... also I believe Josh's parents may have done alot more "interrogating" of Josh than anyone else could've dreamed of. Maybe the need for the secret video recorder? The time lapse on the tape? The early departure from the ship? Direction from Josh's to stop talking and dad to "just sign the statement" so they could get out of the Turkish Police Department so quickly?

For all I know, Josh could be a street-wise punk, but on the other hand most teenagers are just airheads, who know why they say what they do...they talk more than they think. But this guy may be cut from another cloth. But if he is that calculating, then he has to know that his time line ain't going to be confirmed by the KGB.

 

Oh, now that Dr. Lee has reproted back to his clients, it will be fun to watch to see if the parents bring up the RCCL repainted the canopy story. If nothing else Mr. Moto should have been able to make that determination, with or without the dummy.

I don't know Josh has just struck me as a typical middle class kid with no smarts for this type of situation. Then again I don't have the FBI skills that Jaci has (ha)

 

Now I might get slammed for "racial profiling" on this but here goes. The "Russians" are first generation American from Brighton Beach NY. Parents were Russian immigrants. By all accounts these young men are heavy partiers with no adult supervision and we all know how expensive a Med cruise can be. Seems awfully pricey for first generation immigrants. Why do the words Russian Mafia keep creeping into my head? In my mind it explains a lot of the behavior, the roughness of these young men and the lack of morals they exhibit.

Wolfie, even if they are "made" members of the Russian Mafia...tatoos and all, they seem to have left prior to the big thud...not to mention no known motive. I have yet to hear of them acting in a hostile way toward DH, rather they seem to simply want to party with him and befriended him when he was trying to find the DW.

 

They may be hooligans, but that night in relation to DH, they seem to be like spirits.

I'm really leaning more and more to the accident theory 60/40 versus foul play. if the FBI says accident, this saga will continue because the Smith's will attempt once again to sue RCI. As most of us have said over and over, they have no concept of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

or she is yelling for nothing. She had to prove rape with semen sample to do DNA with to say who raped her. The film is with security as the NYC guys state it was consensual. So that is entertainmment for all in the courtroom when they play it for the jury. ;-)

 

 

 

According to the NYTimes article on Jan 7th, the Grand Jury is investigating the rape report as well:

swiftly to the charges. He asked that his name not be disclosed to

shield the woman's identity, but said that she was "angry and looking forward to her day in court."

 

Sounds like she plans on being in court for something, but not to sue RCCL? I suspect someone will be pressing charges for the alleged rape from this statement.

when the female calls Security with Rape complaint. They meet with the 3 boys & get the tape. Being in Italy they notify Italian police as well as US Consulate & FBI. Italian police interview them (guys & her), watch the tape with security and state it isn't a rape. Then they meet with everyone & she agrees to it.

 

 

Now she wants to sue? The guys? Italian police have the report that their attorney have by now stating NO RAPE. End of story!

From what I recall, whoever had jurisdiction over the videotape of the alleged rape felt the tape did not show one way or the other whether the act was consensual or not. So it does not appear that that will ever come to trial. I also recall that the young woman involved recanted once it was all said and done - probably the sad case of she drank too much liquor and doesn't have good recall of events.

 

Once this surfaced the captain knocked them all off the ship -I guess enough was enough. My disgust of it is that this happened within a day or two of GS going over. These young men have to be sociopaths - they certainly didn't let what happened to George damper their vacation. And why in the world would Askin's parents let him continue to hang with these people? What kind of idiot parents do this? Yes, I know 20 is an adult but I still "obeyed" my parents rules as long as they supported me and since Josh is in college we can assume it's on daddy and mommy's nickel. It's like the players in this little drama are the worst of what our society offers - no morals, no self control, no character, no ethics and certainly no conscience.

I wouldn't make the gigantic leap of assuming that a first-generation American must be too poor to afford a Med cruise and thus must be part of organized crime...any more than I would assume that someone from Texas must be a redneck bigot. Doing so would be terribly unfair and would make me appear pretty ignorant, wouldn't it?

Clete has multiple people in the room continuously after being awakened. He also hears arguing on the balcony, slamming noises, etc. Maybe GS was just a noisy kisser.

No, it wouldn't make you look like an idiot, not to me anyway. It would tell me that you are exercising your right to free unrestrained thinking, and freedom of speech, even in this hyper-sensitive politically correct society we live in. It has nothing to do with bigotry in my mind. Not even related. Wolfie may have been stereotyping, but was not being a bigot. Not in my view anyway.
