Montego Bay Beach Day?

We are just about 3 weeks from our sailing and still trying to figure out our plan 100% for Montego Bay. We have a group of 12 with ages ranging from 4 to 60 (6 kids, 6 adults).

Our plan right now is to hang out at Doctors Cave Beach for a few hours, have lunch at The Pork Pit, and then let the kids (and adult kids) play on the water toys at Margaritaville.

We had looked at Jaital for transportation and their quote was $14/person. It seems like we could get there cheaper through taxi or hop off/hop on bus.

So here are my questions:

1) How far from the port is the "hip strip"?

2) Would it be better to just book the transportation through a tour or are the shuttles just fine?

3) Does this plan seem like a good beach day play for a large group?

4) How crazy does Margaritaville get? Will there be seating for our party or at least most of our party (I suspect most of the kids will be in the water the entire time.)

5) Anything else I should know or make plans for in this area?

Thank you!
