cornishpirates Posted July 9, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Hi, we have booked to see the folkloric show while in St Petersburg next month but have heard that Celebrity will bring onboard a local production. Does anyone know if it will be basically the same thing? Would we be better to watch the onboard show and swap to a different excursion or will it be worth it to go to a more authentic/professional production? Thanks
Xport Posted July 9, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2018 I attended the Folkloric Show while visiting St. Petersburg [Celebrity Eclipse/July 2010] and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was professionally staged--in a comparatively small/relatively contemporary venue accommodating several hundred attendees at most [not full when I attended; all were cruise guests from a number of ships] and featured a wide array of music/dance and colorful, differing costume changes. I don't recall that Celebrity brought a folkloric troupe aboard while we were in St. Petersburg but have attended and appreciated a number of similar "local lite" events [most notably, in Europe and South America] aboard ship. Have they been "basically the same"? Perhaps... But I'd guess it comes down to one's definition of "basic" and the degree of cultural immersion one seeks in the context of what one values/hopes to otherwise experience relative to other opportunities. Only you can make that determination... St. Petersburg is memorable...
upwarduk Posted July 9, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2018 don't recall that Celebrity brought a folkloric troupe aboard while we were in St. Petersburg but have attended and appreciated a number of similar "local lite" events We saw the Folk lore show in July 2015 on board Eclipse. It was scheduled to come aboard Silhouette on July 1st 2018. However, we didn’t dock ( due to high winds) so no one went anywhere. We had booked our tours via Celebrity and were refunded our money within 24 hours. Port fees were refunded a day later.
Er12001 Posted July 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Hello! Was just on Silhouette's Jun. 9th sailing, and we did have "The Stars of Saint Petersburg" show come on board on our 2nd night (we had 2 nights in St. Petersburg on this itinerary). It was very nicely staged with local instruments, dancers, singers, and colorful costumes. Would presume this is somewhat similar (if not a bit of an abbreviated) version of what you would see on land. I would suggest considering how much you are willing to spend for an evening excursion (would be worth it to see St. Petersburg at night if you are only relying on the ship/tour operator's visa) and also checking on board to confirm that the invited Russian show will in fact come on board during your sailing. Happy Cruising!
cornishpirates Posted July 9, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Thanks everybody for your replies. Think we'll still go ahead with the show we've already booked, as seeing St Petersburg in the evening will be a bonus as well. I'm sure it will be be good evening out. Tiggertastic Posted July 9, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2018 We’ve been on Baltic cruises 3 tomes and they’ve all had 2 days in spb, they’ve brought on a group on the first night that includes singing and dancing and whirling and I really enjoyed it.
