Minne Wonka Girl Posted January 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2006 Out of curiosity, does anyone know why the Caribbean Princess arrived home in Port Everglades on Friday, Jan 6th (yesterday)? She normally arrives early Saturday mornings. It is rare to see a cruise ship heading into port at night. She departed on time this afternoon. I wondered if she had mechanical problems or if someone on board was ill.
CruiseKing Posted January 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2006 Rumor has it that is was to rough to tender to Princess Cays so the Captain opted for an early sail and arrival back to Ft.Lauderdale.
Squire5000 Posted January 8, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We were on the ship. Rough seas at Princes Cays prevented our stop. Plus, the Captan said they had a request for a medical evacuation so they decided to head for Port Everglades.

Squire, Princess didn't require the passengers to get off the ship Friday night, did they? Were all activities carried out as planned Friday night? Please tell me you got to stay on board until regular disembarkation time Saturday morning. On the other hand, if passengers wanted to disembark Friday night, were they allowed to? A couple of years ago, we were on a Princess cruise that had to skip the Princess Cays stop. When we got home, we wrote a nice letter to Princess requesting a refund of our Port Tax for that stop, which is normally paid to the government of The Bahamas. A few weeks later, we received a credit on our credit card equalling $30 per person. If a ship does not make a scheduled stop, it does not pay the Port & Gubmint Fees at that port. You are entitled to that back. This is not the same as asking for an adjustment of your cruise fare because you missed a port. The cruise line is clearly NOT responsible for that. But they definitely should refund any Port & Gubmint Taxes that were not paid because of missed ports.

Wonder if the taxes went down...or did they short change us as we wouldn't know the difference.

We stayed on board during the sailing day (Friday) and all activities were enhanced during the day and as usual Friday night. Disembarked Saturday with no difficulity. Yes...the seas were too rough for tendering and with all their medical? problems the past few weeks, no doubt they wouldn't risk it. Also, the weather was too crappy for a beach day anyway!!! Squire5000 Posted January 8, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Jazie has it right. As far as I know, no one was allowed off the ship until Saturday when it was cleared by Customs.
