sueed Posted September 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Will be in DR in November and need to purchase Cuban cigars as a gift for a favorite relative. Any suggestions? Will be in 2 ports--Santa Marta and :cool:Cartegena..
dibbitz Posted September 4, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) Hi, I don't know what cruise line you are on but in the past, we have seen them on the ship...Royal Caribbean I think. Don't hold me to that but I think that was the one. Likely on others as well. ....we have seen them in Bahamian ports as well....as to which port offers the best price, I do not know....I seem to remember various prices at each....so I suspect there would be a variety of choices in DR as well...... Rare crewsweeper Posted September 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2018 DR cigars can be much better than Cubans. Lots of fake Cubans floating around. Unless there's a Casa del Habana store, I wouldn't trust any vendor's say so on quality Cubans. But look for Don Lucas, Arturo Fuentes, Cohiba Dominican or Romeo y Julietta cigars for quality DR cigars. The tobacco used is from seeds from Cuba. As are many of the cigar makers. There a Cigar Shop in Cayo Santa Maria on Puebla Estrella. No idea about Cartegena
blue_water Posted September 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2018 What Crewsweeper said. I am partial to Fonseca cigars when I buy Cubans as they are less expensive and a marvelous cigar. But my “go to” cigars when staying in the Carib are from the DR, Honduras, and Nicaraguan because they are also excellent and not nearly as pricey as authentic Cubans. These are Colombian ports and not DR ports...right???
sueed Posted September 6, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted September 6, 2018 Thank you for the information. I did get the ports in the wrong country--too much reading cruise critic late at night.

Rare crewsweeper Posted September 6, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 6, 2018 I can't opine on cigars in Columbia, but there is a Casa del Habana store in Cartagenia. TA reviews look good. Mojitos too.:D https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g297476-d7050172-r219583147-La_Casa_del_Habano-Cartagena_Cartagena_District_Bolivar_Department.html
