MSC online check-in question

I tried doing the online check-in, and then found they request a picture be uploaded. When I didn't upload a picture it showed my check-in as incomplete. Is it essential to upload a picture in order to complete the check-in or is it OK if you don't? With another cruise line I had this and it was not essential to upload a picture, they just took one at the port.

I've tried uploading but ran in to problems.

Initially photos weren't approved by their biometrics, instantly.

Then when I used a lower res picture (laptop webcam), the pictures were all saved but disappeared a day or two later. Given up.

You don't need the picture.
