madster66 Posted September 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Hi we are looking at booking one of these cabins and wondered if anyone had any ideas about how the balcony would be separated from the promenade .. Thank you.:D
john watson Posted September 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2018 It is difficult to predict how the demarcation situation on Iona will be. Princess' early Grand Class; Grand, Golden and Star have forward balconies on Emerald Deck inset overlooking the Promenade Deck. They have a height separation of about one deck. This seems a reasonable idea for a economy balcony. Fred Olsen have Promenade Deck balconies which are a bit like sitting behind a low screen in a Costa Coffee outlet in a shopping mall. People can walk past on the Promenade Deck and talk to you at the same level. Star Clippers have "Verandah" cabins on Star Clipper and Star Flyer where you have a door onto the Promenade deck, no screen or specifically marked out space. I was looking at these Iona cabins and noticed some were right next to the Infinity Spa things which would be handy. I think there will likely be a degree of vertical separation. madster66 Posted September 18, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Thank you John for your reply... I think we are going to go ahead and book as this makes a balcony a reasonable option for our family..:D:D:D:D:D
showingdiva Posted September 18, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2018 When I first read about these Iona cabins, my immediate thought was something similar to the Lanai staterooms on some of the Holland America ships. https://www.hollandamerica.com/blog/ships/ms-amsterdam/the-lanai-a-unique-stateroom-experience-on-a-holland-america-line-cruise/
madster66 Posted September 18, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Thank you showingdiva... we could easily cope with a room like that .. and having been caught out by a window cleaner ( poor poor man ) I am always mindful of closing my curtains however private my room seems !! john watson Posted September 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2018 The HAL set up is just like on Star Clippers. If I were choosing an Iona Promenade Deck I should seriously think of being near an Infinity Pool. Regards John
