Scary or Gross cruise memories.......

Hey all, What is the scariest or grossest thing that has ever happened to you, or that you witnessed on a cruise?

When I was 7, and sailed on Sitmar to Mazatlan, some kid ran right through the glass of a shop and got all cut up. It was a big old bloody mess, that was 21 years ago, and I still remember every detail. Let's all share our stories......

Carnival Pride 4/27/02

Sitmar Fairsea 4/ 1983 ( I was just a little kid!!)

I was on the NCL Sea in NYC and was mooned by someone on the RCCL ship docked next to us. Not a big deal unless you were exposed to the most awful looking butt I've ever seen.

This happened to us on the Conquestador cruise when we were in Cozumel. There was a Princess ship dockeded next to us and some guy mooned all of us watching from our balconies. Yuk...! There was another very handsome man on his balcony already dressed for dinner in his tux. Man..what eye candy he was..I kept wishing and praying he would do the same thing..I even waved my mardi gras beads (why we had mardi gras beads is another story!) to entice him, but he didn't bite LOL icon_biggrin.gif

Nothing worse than you sitting out on the Lido Deck (where grill is) deck enjoying the view and your steak sandwich, when someone sits down at the table next to you and starts picking his feet. Now that was attractive . .icon_mad.gif Talk about loss of appetite.

This occured when we were on the Pride two years ago August 17th. We were anchored at Belize and everyone ha to go on a tender to get to shore.

(1) Getting on the tender a woman slipped in between both the tender and the docking device of the ship. She cut herself pretty badly and had to get quite a few stitches I believe and her leg was pretty swollen.

(2) On the way back our tender ran out of gas halfway back to the ship. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes to transfer over to another tender. We had to climb over from one to the other with them both rocking like crazy. It didn't scare me, but my wife and friends that do not swim were scared to no end. It was hours before they calmed down. I had to go over first in order to give them each a hand.

On Ecstasy last November, this very obviously drunk woman would jump into the hottub with all of my friends and I. We knew she was nuts and her male escort just laughed and bought more drinks. Well at one point when he was getting more drinks, she climbs into the hot tub turns with her back to us while standing on the seat and then falls backwards into the water. We all quickly moved out of the way.

She was under there for so long that when we went to pick her up, she popped up. Then she sits down where she had been standing and laid her head back against the edge of the tub. She starts talking to herself and all of a sudden passes out and sinks down into the water.

Our very small 110 pound friend lifted her out of the water, called some of our very large male friends who were out of the tub to lift her all the way up and then waved over security. Security and her male escort took her over to a lounge chair while we all tried to find out what happened.

Turns out I got it all on video and didn't even realize it at the time.

The scariest thing that ever happened to me was on my 1st cruise. I was in St Lucia on a shore excursion. The day before the island had a massive rain squall and our tour was 1 of the 2 not cancelled. It was a ride a mountain bike through the rainforest tour. On the way to the rainforest in the bus we passed the St Lucia Hospital and "what a dump"! We all prayed we would NEVER have to go to this shack! Well, we were on our bikes, crossing a tiny stream. The water started rising so we all had to carry our bikes across the stream. The water kept rising and no one could see the rocks we were walking on any longer. By the time my friends and I had to cross the water (rapids now) were knee high with a very strong current. I lost my footing on the slippery rocks, when the tourguide took the bike from me to haul it to the other side. I somehow slipped, fell and went under the rocks. The current was so strong now, I was sideways in the water holding on to a mossy rock for dear life, unable to pull myself out of the water, unable to touch the bottom of the stream because of the current! The only thing running though my mind was that awfull hospital! The tourguide (after was seemed like hours, but was only minutes) and my friends pulled me out. It took 4 people to fight the current to rescue me from those rapids. I emerged a wet rat, unbroken but horribly bruised and shaken. I was thanking God, the universe, and every Deity I could think of for not letting me get hurt bad enough to go to that hospital. But like the trouper I think I am <grin> I got back on my bike and rode back to base. I had no choice-it was the only way back to the ship! But I celebrated my first cruise battlewounds with a stiff shot of tequilla when we boarded. After a shower , of course.

Happy Cruising,

Seeker

Gross would have to be the pile of toenail clippings when we got out to our balcony on the Pride in 02, YUCK!

Scary would be on my first cruise in 01 when the horns started sounding and the ship began turning around. People were running and I was clinging to my Corona wondering why I didn't pay more attention at the drill, lol. Anyhow we came upon a tiny wooden boat with 3 men who had been missing at sea for 3 weeks from the Cayman Islands. They were declared lost at sea and we rescued them. It was a great experience but scary none the less. It was a month after 9/11 and security was quite chaotic on board.

WOW! I would love to get rescued by a cruise ship!

My scary exoerience was in Ocho Rios on the white river- we went tubing expecting a nice leisurely ride. We should have figured REAL rivers are not lazy. While there weren't rapids, there was a fairly strong current and my tube headed right for a tree that had fallen into the water and i couldn't see it till I was almost on top of it. My tube flipped, and luckily i was holding hands with my friend cuz i didn't want to get separated from her... she pulled me out of the water and i climber in top of her in her tube! I was probably only in the water for 20 seconds but it was scary and if i hadn't been holding on to her i dunno what I would have done.

Another woman in our group fell out of her tube and ended up UNDER a tree in the water.

And that was at the beginning of it- we spent the rest of the ride being scared out of our wits!

Wow, Katy...I didn't realize that you ALSO fell out of your tube!!!

I'm glad that we didn't book it. I thought that it might be fun for Kristy--but, hearing what you guys went through--I think I would have been scared out of my wits for her.

No WONDER the comment was made that they wanted to know the Jamaican definition on leasurly!

(And, how I wish this system had spell check. LOL!)

One night I went to use a public restroom on the Pride. It smelled like someone had vomited in there. I went into a stall and looked around but everything looked OK. Then my foot suddenly slipped in something. I'm sure by now you've guessed what it was. Had to take my shoe off in the bathroom and wash it off in the sink. Luckily, it was only on the very bottom. That was really gross.

We took a Bahamas cruise on a cruiseline that went into and out of business in about 6 months. The ship anchored off Bimini [no other ship ever went there] and we tendered in one of the ships very old covered lifeboats. It was blazing hot out and like an oven inside the lifeboat. Luckily we were right by the opening so I climbed out and stood on the gunwale and hung on to a handhold and was able to breathe there in the open air. Then some clown inside was messing with a red smokemarker and pulled the pin. BLAM! The boat immediately fills with acrid, thick red smoke. Everybody inside is screaming and choking. I was able to reach down and lift Barbara out into the air. After a minute or two someone inside had the presence of mind to toss the marker overboard. Someone else threw a lifejacket overboard-don't know why- As we motored on with much coughing and yelling inside I looked back at the still billowing smoke marker with the empty lifejacket floating alongside and thought. The next boat that comes along isn't going to understand this scene at all.

I was the woman that got knocked off her tube and stuck under a tree. The River Tubing in Ochos Rios was suppose to be a lazy river tubing tour, fun, relaxing and enjoyable...HA...

28 of us got into our tubes and started on our way...it was rough, rougher than I would have liked it to be especially since I had my 10 & 13 year old daughters on other tubes. I was in for maybe 5-10 minutes when all of a sudden I got tossed out of the tube, did a tumblesalt and wound up under the water...not too bad so far but then when I went to swim up, there was what I thought to be a tree on top of me. Paniced a split second, realized that I couldn't panic and swam away from the tree. About the same time I was about to reach the top of the water I felt these great big strong arms of one of the tours guides pull me up.

He wanted to put me back in the tube but all I wanted was the exit...of which there is none on the River Tubing Tour! So, back in the tube I go, not a happy camper and continued on... Talk about scary the only thing that got me thru this was knowing that I had 2 daughters up there and I'd be damn if I let them see their mother drown!!

The grossest thing I saw was an actual piece of poop on the lido deck on our Disney Cruise. I think the crew were avoiding it for dear life, ignoring it so they didn't have to be the one that got stuck picking it up!! Also, on our last Sensation cruise, seeing the hallway lined with full barf bags was not that enjoyable (VERY rough night at sea).

I think HeidiHo gets the gross out prize for stepping in vomit!
