snorklinbarb Posted October 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 18, 2018 Will be on a B2B so only a Sunday to walk around French Quarter mid November. Many fine restaurant recommendations but most are for dinner (searched back to 2016 here) and on past trip have been to Commander's Palace and Felix's or Acme Oyster Bar. Doesn't seem like too many oysters in Po' Boys so would anyone have a local place for a fried oyster platter lunch? I found a top 10 type list on the internet that led me to Johnny Po'Boys. Not at all looking for fancy. Someplace easy to find as only a few hours to wander around. Or just head back to the famous oyster bars? Thanks for any suggestions! jgmpuma Posted October 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2018 Deanie's, 899 Iberville. They do a great job on frying seafood. Unless you are really hungry, the oyster poor-boy is big enough for two, and is packed with oysters. Free appetizer of new potatoes boiled in seafood boil. It is usually very busy, no reservations, but the line moves quickly.

I did not see the free appetizer as they list only $3 surcharge for fries with the po'boys. Is this something I would mention to them? Sounds yummy and big enough for me given I won't be taking a doggy bag back to the ship! I also see soft shell crabs which take no back seat to oysters though have never had them in New Orleans. Have you ever tried them? Many menus list "in season" so not sure if they when they might be.
jgmpuma Posted October 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2018 No charge for the potatoes. They just bring them. A golden-fried soft shell crab is culinary paradise. I have never had one at Deanie's, but I'm sure they would do a great job on them.
