Juliah67 Posted April 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2004 I'm going on my first cruise (Glory) on May 29. I am SERIOUSLY addicted to Starbucks. Any good sources of espresso onboard???? If not, can I bring my own espresso machine? This is ,sadly, my most serious cruising concern. Thanks for any help! Love, Juliah

On the GLORY there is a capucinno(sp?)bar on the promenade deck just aft of the casino, I think. They also have tons of addictive-quality chocolate goodies there. I found the ship's coffee (24 hrs) to be just fine for me and I'm a serious Starbuck's customer, but maybe my addiction isn't quite as intense as yours. Enjoy. dsclark Posted April 6, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2004 I love espresso. In fact, I just used my super auto Gaggia machine to brew up some freshly roasted (roasted three weeks ago) molokai beans.I'd love to bring this pricey machine aboard... Having said that, I visited the espresso bar on the Ecstacy. I have a feeling they are the same on all ships. The coffee there was superior to Start bucks (the coffee snob in me says that's not hard to do!). In addition, A tall moch was actually CHEAPER than from Starbucks. Make sure you have a blacony to enjoy it from.
Lady_K Posted April 6, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2004 dsclark-- Do you remember the prices for the various drinks? Is the coffee bar only open certain hours? thanks.
dsclark Posted April 6, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 6, 2004 It is a foggy memory... I do remember that on debarkation day, the coffee place was the ONLY thing open and they took cash only. Docked in Long Beach, people were in a long line, preferring a CCL espresso to the nearby Long Beach espresso shacks. I think a tall mocha, with tip was under $4, between $3.40 and $3.70, tip included. I don't recal the hours. They did offer chai and cold blended coffee drinks. My summative memory was that the drinks were superior to most of the little espresso shacks that have sprouted up lately, and were priced the same or cheaper. Honestly, I would have been willing to pay a few bucks more to drink a tall mocha on a balcony. but who am I to complain about the low price? relliea Posted April 6, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Being a Pacific Northwester I will not cruise without my Italian Roast ground for a paper cone. Melita makes a one cup drip coffee cone & I bring a one cup hot pot that takes two minutes to boil. I pour the water thru the cone and voile' the best cup of high octane brew on the ship. The airport security guys always question my carryon of zip lock bags with 'my stash' but as soon as they see the 1 lb. bag of Italian Roast they realize I'm just another PNW coffee addict. I say take it with you and enjoy your first cup in the morning without having to leave your room. RellieA
