jiffymatt Posted January 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2006 We will be in Guatemala City on the 2/11 Sun sailing. The NCL shore excusions don't seem too enticing. We'd like to travel in the immediate vicinity of Guatemala City with a local guide for a few hours. Any suggestions ? Thanks !
canadiangirl Posted January 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Hey there. We are going on the same cruise and I am having a heck of a time trying to find out what to do in Guatemala. The 8 tours we have to pick from seem blah to me. I'm not sure I was to pay $120 USD to go hang out at a hotel but there doesn't seem like much else to do and nobody seems to have any ideas. Have you found out anything or decided what your going to do in port yet?

monicajay Posted March 7, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2006 :) Just got back from the NCL Sun and had a wonderful day in Guatemala thanks to the CC message board. A big thank-you to TooEze who had first posted about his tour. Using the roll call boards we collected a group of about 30 to take this tour. This however, is not necessary, Individuals can reserve directly and Gus is equiped to handle about 45 max. He does this using 3 small boats (launcha). He lived in the US for many years so has perfect English and a good understanding of what tourists are interested in. Lunch was amazing and I ate the biggest shrimp I have ever seen. Bathrooms at the hotel were spotless. The highlight was the hike into the Rain Forest to see the school. I would recommend this trip to anyone but not with young children they would be bored. Here is the tour info and the website to the hotel to contact Gus: El Delfin Tour Operator Paseo Marcos Sanchez Diaz Livingston, Izabal http://posadaeldelfin.com LIVINGSTON TOUR FOR CRUISE SHIPS 10: 00 ? 10:30 am Departure from Cruise Terminal to Livingston ? 20 minutes this short trip takes you along the shoreline were you will see the San Hill mountain and the villas of the coast. 11:00 am ? arriving at Posada el Delfin in Livingston were you will be taking your lunch order. 11:15 am. Departure to the hanging gardens of the canyon of Rio Dulce this is a lazy river with 300 feet walls full of jungle vegetation. While at the canyon we will visit the water springs and be able to see the ?Cows Cave? and the ?Pioneers Wall? . 12:00 pm. We will enter Rio Tatin Creek and visit the Ak-Tenamit School inside the jungle. We will see the Maya Indians manufacturing art crafts and you will interact with kids from the school that are learning about the tourist industry. A Maya Ketchi guide will take us into the jungle for a 5 minute tour to learn about medicinal plants from the area. ( if you don?t feel like walking into the jungle and visit the school, you will have time to swim in the crystal clear waters of Rio Tatin). Before leaving the Ak-Tenamit, we will visit the store were you can buy souvenirs. 12:45 pm Departure Rio Tatin and visit the Hot Water Springs and the ?Lake of the Lilies? 1:30 pm Lunch at Posada El Delfin we you will be able to taste one of the following: Catch of the Day Sea Bass Chicken or steak ? all with a complimentary soft drink, beer or glass of wine. 2:15 pm ? passaporta Posted March 11, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2006 We also did this tour with Monica & Gus. It was wonderful. The natural beauty experienced along the Rio Dulce was incredible, passing the locals in dugout canoes, like a page from the past. Gus, you did a wonderful job. Would love to do it again but spend more time. Everyone in our launcha had a great trip. Thank you Suzanne :) :) :)
