BridgeMates Posted November 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2018 We'll be docked in San Juan from 3:30-11pm in late April. Anyone have recommendations for what-to-do during these odd hours? Very little time for the fort. Not beach people. Do you recommend a tour or is there something we can walk to near the port? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks! pdc2013 Posted November 25, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2018 You will have time to visit the closets fort with your time in port. Plenty to walk around and see. Alot of uneven roads and up all the way so if that is an issue take a tour:)
bouhunter Posted November 26, 2018 #3 Share Posted November 26, 2018 If you haven't been to Old San Juan - catch a fort first, then shop, dine and stroll the old city. It's great. Skip dinner on the ship, OSJ has some great restaurants.
roadpainterbeef Posted November 27, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 27, 2018 Assuming that you are docked the at main downtown port and not at the Pan American dock, you are just minutes from the old town. You can take a taxi ($10 per ride not per person set fee within Zone 4 downtown) to one of the two forts (they close at 6) This puts you at the high point of the town, so walking back to the port ( 45 minutes if you don't stop) will be all down hill. There is also a free tram (3 different routes) that goes by all the major points of interest, but it is not very quick and they all don"t run after dark. The tourism building is right at the port for maps and times So here are a few options for you: 1 You could just ride around for free for a few hours 2 Take the taxi to one of the forts and walk or ride the tram back to the port 3 Or if you walk west from the port area, there is a beautifully scenic walk along Paseo de la Princesa and the walkway along the old city wall. Lots to see and places to stop and the bonus is it is ALL FLAT maybe 45 - 60 minutes return. I think the old town is more magical at night. All the points of interest are illuminated. Hope this helps As we are not beach people either this is my favourite port of call !! Make sure to eat some mofongo 🙂
