Pitachip1210 Posted December 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2018 We are visiting St Thomas in January, and we would like to visit Coral World, but we know they got smashed a few years back from the hurricanes. Has anybody been lately? How’s the conditions? Would you skip this for now and do something else?
Loonbeam Posted December 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2018 See my response to the Coral World thread below if I missed anything. As of May 2018, they had suffered major damage and were in the process of repairing. The aviary was demolished and a new one in progress, the ampitheatre was heavily damaged and there was no timeline for reopening that. The sea lion encounter area lost its roof and had temporarily shade erected as well as makeshift benches. The underwater viewing platform had cosmetic damage but was operation as was the main aquarium viewing. Admission fees were reduced. No animals were harmed or loss, any not back on display have quarters in a secure building. We spent a nice 3 hours there.
pittypat Posted December 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2018 I visited in May 2018 for a month while my husband was working. The area still had significant damage and extreme seaweed in that area. Would recommend Magen’s Bay or St. John beaches for now. pittypat
