Hawaii697 Posted April 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Hi all! I need to confirm the following. Since we are in Barbados into the late evening, would that be casual dining (shorts) as well? Thanks for your responses. San Juan 1st Night – Very casual (shorts permitted), only night of unassigned seating. St. Thomas 2nd Night – 1st formal night Dominica 3rd Night – Casual (no jeans) Barbados 4th Night – Casual (no jeans) Day at Sea 5th Night – 2nd formal night Aruba 6th Night – Very casual (shorts permitted) Day @ Sea 7th Night Casual (shorts not permitted)
Cruisin' Southern Caribbean August 2005
Cotton Posted April 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Question: Do you mean shorts for dining (you said late evening) while ashore at Barbados and Aruba? Or do you mean in the dining room those nights? Shorts are not permitted ANY night in the dining room (except possibly first night if you don't have your luggage). Also, I've always had my assigned table the first night on board. Cruising89143 Posted April 6, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Correction, there are some nights on certain cruises that one "can" wear shorts in the dining room. I have been on several Carnival sailings where shorts were permitted when the ship was in port very late. It clearly stated this in the Capers. Cotton Posted April 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Really ??!! Never heard of that, and have certainly never seen it. On my last cruise, we were in Cozumel till midnight, but there weren't any shorts in the dining room at dinner. (Not mentioned in Capers, either.) Shorts are sometimes permitted in the dining room when the ship is in port late into the evening (during the dinner hours). To answer the original poster's question - yes, shorts are permitted for the nights that you are docked in Barbados and Aruba. That information will be confirmed in your daily capers for those days. tef43 Posted April 6, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2004 I have to agree with Cotton. I've always had my assigned table in the dining room for the first night, even when departing from San Juan. And there has never been an allowance for shorts at dinner due to a late port call, with the exception of the first night being due to luggage not being delivered yet. momofzeke Posted April 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 6, 2004 I just got off the Carnival Pride, and although each day the Capers clearly states that shorts are not permitted in the dining room, we did see a man in khakhi (docker-type) shorts on about the 4th night in the dining room. I was very surprised. There was also a sign at the door of the dining room stating to please wear proper attire into the dining room. On one formal night, there was a man dressed in jeans and a sports jersey (with a number on it). He seemed happy as a clam, and he wasn't asked to leave. Go figure. Sue Our First Cruise! dosi Posted April 6, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 6, 2004 We were in Cozumel until 10 or 11 pm and shorts were not permitted in the dining room that day. Further more, one night when my husband forgot to change into trousers the maitre 'd very politely asked to go back to our cabin to change. I guess each ship is a little different when it comes to enforcement. doris "I travel a lot; I hate having my life disrupted by routine"--Caskie Stinnett Elation 10/20/02 Paradise 9/21/03 Star Princess 10/24/
powriel Posted April 6, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 6, 2004 We were on the Glory in February and both formal nights a lady sitting behind us was wearing sweats. I think, especially on formal nights, if you want to dress that way that is fine, but don't come to the dining room. But, until Carnival decides to enforce the dress code (policy) you are going to see that kind of thing. 8/25 Carnival Spirit Conquest 2/03 Glory 2/

Snowball Posted April 6, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Jason - I see that you are sailing on the Destiny in May. You should check your capers for the days that you are in Barbados and Aruba and see if it says that shorts are allowed on those evenings at dinner. It said it was allowed when I sailed the Destiny in 2002....... Debbie Click here to visit the Miracle Party Cruiser's Group Board. The Miracle Party Cruisers are sailing away on 5/9/04!
