g8way2go Posted January 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2019 Is it possible to DIY Cadiz to Seville without taking a tour?
mapleleaves Posted January 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2019 Did you look at the train ? A rather long trip tho .... 1 hr 40 min each way. I usually start with the trainline web site then go to the specific company if I need more info. If your timeframe isn't available yet, it will at least give you an idea of the journey's length, frequency and cost. https://www.thetrainline.com/
grnrab Posted January 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2019 Yes Both Train and Bus There have been several earlier posts on this subject here - use search feature Cadiz train station is very close to the port area. Also for Sevilla look up San Bernardo station as destination. leaves you closest to tourist sites etc. Travel time is about the same on train as by vehicle - about 1.5 hours
LondonTowner Posted January 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2019 If you haven’t been to Cadiz before there is plenty to keep our occupied for the day and it is a very pleasant town, or you could go to Jerez. Personally, I think Seville needs a lot longer than a few hours.
hkto Posted January 9, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) From purely practical perspective RT time between Cadiz and Seville is close to 5 hrs counting time for to/from dock to stations to major attractions. Realistically visit to Alcazar takes at least 1.5 hrs (and that's with prepurchased tickets, longer without). So for 12-13 hrs Cadiz stop it makes sense, for 7-8 hr probably not. g8way2go Posted January 10, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted January 10, 2019 Thank you all for your responses. Seville seems to be the magnet for most people, particularly for our May 8th visit. With your comments, I will look further into what Cadiz has to offer.
grnrab Posted January 10, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2019 Again train station is right next to port in Cadiz. There is minimal walking time or cab time from port to train station - 10 minutes at worst. Likewise Sevilla's San Bernardo station is short walk to Placa D'Espana and thus all the typical Sevilla sites including Alcazar. Your call OP. We did not do a DIY tour rather planned a small private excursion with Spain Day Tours with folks from our Roll Call. We were on the bus at 9:15a , trip was no more than 1hr 40 mins each way. We had plenty of time to hit all the highlights and enjoy a leisurely lunch too. Yes 10-12 "all-in" hours would be best to allot, but we did not feel cheated by having approximately 6-6.5 hours in Seville itself using SDT and had no worries about rejoining the ship in time to depart that evening. Key in your decision will be your ship's departure time from Cadiz whether doing DIY or organized excursion.
