VictoriaHeap Posted February 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Good afternoon, We disembark from our cruise in Hamburg and I wondered if anyone has recommendations for a hotel there? We have booked a Queens Grill cabin for a special birthday and so I am keen for the hotel not to disappoint. Recommendations of places to dine or the best way to pass the time would also be gratefully received. Many thanks 😊
Bigmike911 Posted February 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) I recommend the Fairmont Vier Jareszeiten then. It is in the center of Hamburg on the Binnen Alster Lake in a premier shopping and restaurant area. I stayed there on my last visit to Hamburg and was delighted. I have had the opportunity over my life to stay in some of the worlds great hotels. This one is among the top. It has great service, great rooms, and the only Michelin Starred Restaurant in Hamburg. I stayed on the Bel Etage floor with a balcony over looking the lake. As for passing the time. A tour of Hamburg would be fun for there is much to see, and I particularly enjoyed the Miniatur Wunderland, a warehouse of model trains and air planes. It is a world class attraction one of the most visited in Europe. In addition to the restaurants in the hotel, there are a number in the vicinity within walking distance. And one of Germany's best department stores The Alsterhaus is a block or so away. Here are some links. https://www.fairmont.com/vier-jahreszeiten-hamburg/ https://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/ https://www.alsterhaus.de/en/ Edited February 6, 2019 by Bigmike911

The Vier Jareszeiten, their suites are amazing as is the restaurant. It is worth a splurge and you will not be sorry. The Hamburg Opera is also top notch in a beautiful house if you happen to be an opera fan.

VictoriaHeap Posted February 6, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Thank you all, this is very helpful. I had seen the Fairmont Vier Jareszeiten and was weighing it up against the Atlantic Kempinski so it is great to have recommendations! Thank you for the extra details too, the Minutur Wonderland sounds like fun. Stella1250 we are there in May, I hope that you have a wonderful voyage 😊
Hawaii136 Posted February 6, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2019 I have stayed at the Vier Jahrseiten and it was wonderful. Can’t remember what category room we booked, but we were lucky to be upgraded to the prince Heinrich suite. Beautiful location on the lake. Definitely worth it to book a room with lake view. The concierge was also helpful. We had them ship DHs tux back to the US so we didn’t have to haul it around for the rest of our travels. if the weather is nice, I also recommend a walk through the planten and Blumen gardens. We were there in May, and the rhodendenrons were beautiful! warning! The weather can be anything. The day we arrived it was close to 80F, 2 days later it was cold and wet- I had multiple layers on, and was still freezing! hamburg is beautiful! Have a great trip! VictoriaHeap, we are staying at the Fairmont both pre and post cruise. Fairmont is an amazing brand, I find their properties nicer than Ritz Carlton. Stella1250 My wife and I are Queens Grill passengers on your cruise! Perhaps we'll run into you on board!
