Princess 'On Your Own' Alaska Cruisetour Q

I am looking at P 39 of the Destination Collection Princess catalogue. There is a Denali Explorer Cruisetour available as an 'On Your Own' cruisetour. Two nights are in Fairbanks and two nights are in Denali. Fine print in the ad states that the 'On Your Own' does not include four named tours (rail, natural history, riverboat, gold).

Has anyone taken the 'On Your Own' option? Does this mean that we would have our accommodation, meals, and transportation provided, but need to book our own tours if we wished?

I did post my question on the Alaska board, but a kind poster suggested I come over here to ask my question.

If anyone has any experience in this area or any suggestions, they would be gratefully accepted.

I have not taken an "On Your Own" cruise tour. However, some of the questions are answered on the Princess website. You would have accommodation and transportation provided but no meals.

Specifically in the FAQ: Alaska Cruisetours section under On Land in Alaska" - "Meals/Dining", they state "All meals onboard our railcars, at our widerness lodges, and at other hotels are at your own expense unless otherwise specified in the daily tour itinerary."

The included meals are specified in the Itinerary for each tour on the website. At the end of the description of each day during the land portion, any included meals are indicated by the letters "B", "L", and/or "D" in parentheses. If you look at the itinerary for a Connoisseur Escorted tour, you will see most days with "(B,L'D" or "(B,D" listed as included. If you look at the itinerary for a Denali Explorer tour or for an On Your Own tour, you will not see any meals listed as included.
