Valiamo Posted February 12, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2019 Thinking of doing a coffee plantation tour when we head to Costa Rica. We are in port from 7 to 7 (a nice long day) Can anyone suggest one that is doable, and decent that we can take from the port? We really want to see how it is grown, and then pick-up some of their coffee beans (heard that the prices were much cheaper than in the port area). There are two on the Princess website that we have looked at. We are not adverse to private tours, but do have a ton of OBC (non-refundable) that we would never use up. Doka Estate plantation - 8 hour tour (with stops @ Palmares church and the botanical gardens @ La Garita) or Espiritu Santo plantation - a 5 hour tour (no extra stops)
Rare crewsweeper Posted August 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2019 2 different plantations in growing and processing: Doka Estates is one of the largest plantations growing both coffee and sugarcane. It's on the slopes of a volcano. Espiritu is a smaller plantation outside of San Jose. Probably a bit more intense and they will show you how ticos brew coffee. I think independent tour operators offer a tour of Finca Rosa Blanca which is a much smaller boutique operation. Harvest season is in the mid-late fall into early winter and they do let you pick beans if harvesting. May want to search. Just remember your ship is probably an hour and a 1/2 + from any of these places. So include that travel time in your planning.
