Baggage Tags

Got my travel documents last week. Am wondering if I can put on the baggage tags once we arrive at our destination. That way I know my luggage has made it through the airline or if we need to put them on before we leave. I know the documents state to put them on before we leave, but since I did not get air through Celebrity, how do I know my luggage arrived?

Don't put the tags on the bags until you claim them at your destination if you are then going directly to the ship. No one needs to know that you are going on a cruise. I put the tags on the bags when I get out of the taxi when I arrive at the port.

Donuts, is there anything they can't do....

It would be too easy for them to tear off going through the airport's baggage system. I think no matter who you booked your air through you would still have to claim you luggage at the airport at baggage claim. I could be wrong. I never book Celebrity's air and have always had to pick up my luggage.

This isn't an answer, but I have other questions about baggage tags.

Do we have to use specific tags provided by the cruise line?

If we don't have them prior to arriving at the ship will they provide them for us?

I ask because my father has been handling everything and I've yet to see any paperwork or tags and I know we'll have at least 4 pieces of luggage just from my crew. 19 days and counting and I'm starting to get nervous

If for some reason you don't get tags, or don't get enough of them they have them at the pier. You will have to write your cabin number on them.

Yep, what Terri said.

You should receive tags with your other documentation, which will hopefully arrive any day now, and they should be printed with your info, but if you need extra they will have them at the pier.

Thanks for the information. We have purchased transfers from the airport to the pier, but I think I will take you advice and not put the tags on until we claim our luggage at the airport

Those pre-printed luggage tags have your cabin number, name and other coded information...

Mine have a small red patch with the word "suite" imprinted on them...

I've got to somehow divert the family's attention from that...They still don't know that I've changed the cabins from an outside and an inside to two "Sky Suites" and I want that to be a surprise for them when they get on the ship...

Now, here's the ultimate "when do you put them on?" question:
We are on a "cruisetour" in Alaska...Our flights are through Celebrity...then there are 6 nights in five different hotels, two train rides and three motorcoach segments BEFORE arriving at the ship...WHEN do WE put on those luggage tags???

Summit, July 3, 2004: Alaska: 13 night cruisetour
Constellation, July 16, 2005: Northern Europe: 14 nights

Bruin Steve - Wow...that's quite a trip! Sounds very interesting. Anyhow, seems to me you wouldn't be the first person/group who showed up without your bag tags. Ask for enough tags to get you through train and motor coach rides and put the "suite" tags on at the very last moment. You could probably forego the "suite" tags completely...thus avoiding the small red patch that would alert your family...and just use the tags you hand printed. I don't think you'd experience any significant delay in getting your bags on the ship just because the ship personnel don't see the little red patches.
