KD Travel Adventures Posted May 4, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2019 If anyone is looking for something to do, Jardin de Balata is a botanical garden in Martinique. It is located a little over 6 miles from Fort-de-France, where the cruise ships dock in Martinique. The place was beautiful and had a tree top trail made of suspension bridges. Below is a link to a video of pictures from the gardens. At the end of the video are gecko lizards we saw while walking. We went to the gardens while on a cruise ship excursion that took us to a rum factory, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HanBZZUOzZM
MHF Posted May 19, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2019 Is it easy to get a taxi to the garden and back on one's own? We are in port 15 hours in November but I would prefer not to do the ship's tour there. Thanks, MHF
KD Travel Adventures Posted May 19, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted May 19, 2019 Since we took the cruise ship tour, I can't speak first hand about taxis, but here is a link on the Jardin de Balata's website about getting there. http://www.jardindebalata.fr/how-to-go-to-the-garden
cruiseapril Posted May 24, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2019 Thank you for the review of the Balata Gardens. We took a cruise excursion (from HAL) which took us to St. Pierre, through the rain forest, to Balata Gardens, and then to Balata Church. It was well worth the price and we had plenty of time at the gardens.
