WP Rail time ? and opinion

We are looking at booking the White Pass Rail excursion for our trip. We are planning on doing the rail roundtrip and renting a car to make the drive to Emerald Lake.

Question. Is the viewing for the rail better in the morning or in the afternoon. Would you recommend taking the 8:10 train and then driving to Emerald lake or driving to Emerald lake and then taking the 4:30 train?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Doesn't really matter. :) If you take the train first, you would have some of their commentary perhaps that will enhance the drive??? But certainly Murray's guide is just a superb document that will also tell you most everything. :)

If you're a photographer, the tunnel-to-Summit area will have better light for pictures in the afternoon. Except for that, it doesn't matter whether you go morning or afternoon - it's a great trip any time of day.
