Hotels north of FLL

I am driving to Fort Lauderdale from Atlanta, and looking for one night in a comfortable/safe motel. Would prefer north of port as I don't want to drive any further than I have to. Anyone with information on hotels north of port would be helpful. I actually wouldn't mind staying as much as an hour or two away, as I can easily drive the rest of the way the morning of my cruise (April 1st). Any info would be appreciated.

I have found that Hampton Inns in Florida are all nice motels to stay in. Their free breakfasts aren't all that bad either!

There's a cluster of hotels on Yamato Road in Boca Raton just off I-95. Doubletree, Townplace Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, and Springhill Suites. That will leave you about 45-60 minutes out from the port.

We have stayed at the Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach. Beautiful place - very upscale compared to Ft Lauderdale. It's on the beach and has a great restaurant.
