Does Celebrity Cruises have a minimum drinking age for consumption of alcoholic beverages?

Celebrity will not serve alcoholic beverages while a vessel is at sea to guests under 18 years of age. In port, the minimum drinking age is 18 or 21 in accordance with local legal age limitations. No alcoholic beverages may be purchased ashore for consumption on board.

Parents may sign a waiver permitting their 18 to 20 year old children to drink beer and wine onboard.

-----------

When is this waiver filled out, I didn't hear of this before hand at all was just told that between those ages, that was the service you would receive. Just wondering if anyone actually did this process and what it entailed.

The waiver can be signed at anytime however the rules depend apparently on the ship. On our recent Galaxy cruise my 18 yr. old and 20 yr. old were allowed to drink just about anything they wanted. We never signed a waiver and they ordered beer and wine without a problem anywhere on the ship. They ordered drinks while at dinner with us and no one ever asked for the waiver. I might add they were very responsible and there was never a problem.

I have read on these boards that on other Celebrity ships the waiver was signed by parents and the rules were followed. Beer and wine does not appear to be a problem on any of the ships.

Last cruise we took the kids on was to Mexico...and my older daughter didn't seem to have a problem getting served...Of course, IN PORT in Mexico they'll serve anyone who can reach the bar...

This upcoming cruise, the girls will be 18 and 20...but I am not going to worry it...I'm certyain both will have a glass of wine or two and maybe a frosty drink if they'll serve it to them (It's not like these kids aren't drinking while they're away at college!!)...But, I've found, so far, that my older daughter, at least, is quite responsible...her college roommates tell me they count on her to look out for them--At parties, she gets one drink and nurses it all night--she hates being not in control...

I figure that, on the ship, they know we're around...plus we see the bills...they'll be sure to be on reasonably good behavior...

I learned when I was their age to drink responsibly...it was the kids whose parents made it an absolute taboo that were always sneaking off and getting wasted...

Hey,

Thanks for the response, I'll be 19 at the sailing and a day later be 20 lol, I am one of those who do drink responsibly of course, I was just wondering what I had to put my parents through when it came time for the check in process. Thanks very much!

We took the kids on an RCL cruise, since it's the same company and similar policy maybe the procedures are the same.

At check in we were asked if we wanted to allow the kids to drink then sing a form. Depending on this their cruise cards were marked in one of two ways, one way allowed beer & wine purchases one did not. This could also be changed at any time at the pursers desk.

Of course in port you're subject to local law, and as far as Mexico goes. . .

Boy...I don't get it! My kids will be 12 and 14; why won't they be allowed to drink?

We signed on embarcation for our 18 and 19 year old to be able to drink beer and wine. We also agreed beforehand that they would pay for their own bar tab (re-imbursing us for our credit card charges after the cruise). Since that tab can run up pretty quickly, they did tend to think twice about what and when they ordered.

Don't worry in some of the countries you visit they may be able to drink. In Mexico if you can see over the bar your served.

Hi Bobby;

We just returned from cruising with our 18 and 22 year olds. They had NO problem getting served and we did not have to fill out any kind of form. In fact, I thought the cruise literature in our brochure seemd to indicate if you were 18 you would be served.

I think don't make an issue of your age or if you look young, then have your parents fill out the form.

BTW, my boys had a BLAST! The youngest even won enough in the Casino (yeah, he wasn't 21 for that either!) to buy a Tag Heuer!!

Our children were about 14 and 16 when we went on a land tour of Europe. One of the nice memories of that trip was being able to share a bottle of wine at lunch or dinner. The youngest one really enjoyed the Rhine where we visited a wine tasting shop and shared a tasting rack of the Rhine wines. They also occasionally had beer with a meal.

Two of my kids had trouble with freshman college roommates who regularly over indulged in alcohol. Maybe we would be better off if kids were able to learn to drink responsibly with their parents.

I agree with drinking responsibly.

When children are allowed to taste and experience wine with dinner under their parents supervision, drinking does not become such a big issue. I think there tends to be less abuse in later years.

Hey thanks for the responses still! Im happy to hear it wont be a big issue..

Rad, I believe in international waters the legal age for gambling is 18, so congrats on his winnings! On my last cruise I was 1 day shy of turning 18 but still got away with it, It was fun, until I walked away from "Wheel of Fortune" (ill never forget it) someone sat down and won $4000.. nice. lol

I'm 19 years old, and a drinker. I enjoy drinks, but I do it responsibly.... I do however have a question....

Does this 18 year old age apply to all celebrity cruises? I will be taking a cruise on the Celebrity Constelation, and I'm wondering if I will be able to enjoy libations on the cruise - or if I'll just have to skip this part.
