Should we rent a car?

We will be flying into FLL the day before our cruise. After all the negative reviews of Amerisuites, I am seriously considering renting a car at the airport and finding another hotel. What facilities are available around the princess port for dropping off the rental car?

When you say the Princess Port I assume you are talking about the Port at Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades). In the past we have rented at Hertz and Avis and after dropping off the rental car on the day of embarkation we would take a bus that was provided that took us from the rental car drop off area over to the port. Once at the port, the porters took our luggage.

 

Now your original question was should you rent a car? That one is up to you. I would recommend though figuring out your hotel reservations before you arrive a fort lauderdale rather than waiting. There are plenty of sites that you can utilize to find hotels and reviews on the hotels. Tripadvisor.com is a good site for that. If the hotel you find is near the airport and the pier they you might not need a car unless you prefer one to drive around for the day.

Thank you for your information. We have reservations at the Amerisuite and after reading reviews, I am inclined to cancel and seek another more favorable hotel. There will be five of us and the car might be best for us to see the city. Again, thanks for your reply.

When are you going? Rooms in Ft. Lauderdale are High at the moment because of the King Tut exhibit. Don't just show up without a room booked

We will be there March 10 -- smack in the middle of spring breaks. The car will be great for seeing this area.

The are no car rental drop-offs at Port Everglades. Most drop off at the airport 5 minutes away.

Do the rental companies have vehicles to take you to the Port? I understood some do. Perhaps I should call them and inquire if you do not know this information. I certainly appreciate all the assistance you and Trent give others on this Board. You both are most helpful.
