Edge early dinner seating?

I am a little confused about the “early 6pm dinner seating” on the Edge.  Does this mean that we would only be assigned to one of the 4 main dining rooms? Or would we be able to eat at any of the 4 at 6pm on any given night?  How much do the restaurants differ in menus each night? Are the menus totally different? Or only 2 or 3 dishes?

You will be assigned one of the 4 MDRs, with the possibility of trying others at 6:00, if there is availability. There are 7 regional items in each MDR that are different from the other 3 (3 starters, 3 entrees and 1 dessert and stay the same each night) - otherwise the menus will be the same in each MDR (has a 14 day rotation).

These Edge Dining FAQs may help:

Ahh - this is helpful!  So, you're saying that the 3 "special" starters/mains per dining room are fixed and do not vary night to night, correct?  The rest of the daily menus are the same in all 4 main dining rooms and change each night (like traditional dining on other ships)?

Does one of the 4 dining rooms on the Edge have a better reputation than the others?  Do all 4 share the same galley?

  • The rest of the daily menus are the same in all 4 main dining rooms and change each night (like traditional dining on other ships)? Yes, they are the same in all 4 and rotate in the same pattern in each MDR

  • Does one of the 4 dining rooms on the Edge have a better reputation than the others? It sounds like it is pretty subjective, but Normandie won in the following poll (not very scientific, of course) - there are lots of comments in this thread.
  • Do all 4 share the same galley? I did a tour a few months ago and my understanding was that they each had their own galley and prepared their own specific regional items, but shared the prep for the common items on the menu (in other words, one of the galleys might do some of the nightly MDR items and another other MDR items)

Here is a thread with the menus - note that there have been a few tweaks:
