KarlChilders Posted August 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2019 Before anybody pounces on me, I have posted in the Belize forum, but that doesn't get much visitation. Anybody have any recent experience with getting a ferry to Placencia. When we traveled to Harvest Caye in December '16, you could only get off the island if on an NCL excursion. I understand there is now a ferry, but it doesn't show to reserve as an excursion. Is this something you can book ahead, or just show up. Anybody have details. Thanks. Indykitten Posted August 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2019 We did this in January 2019 (so semi-recent). It was disorganized but it worked. Buy your ferry tickets at the shore excursions desk the first day. They we're $20 or $25 pp round trip. (Sorry, not at home, on mobile so can't check). We did a private snorkeling excursion at Laughing Bird Cayr that was AWESOME. The ferry to the mainland was worth the hassle.
KarlChilders Posted August 7, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted August 7, 2019 Thanks for the recent info. Exact price isn't critical. So it is a book onboard deal. That explains why it doesn't show as something that can be reserved.
roger001 Posted August 7, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2019 I haven't taken it. But they were selling ferry tickets at a desk where the ferry loads on Harvest Cay last time I was there. It was just walk up sales, no reservation.
Paul Bogle Posted August 7, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 7, 2019 Last January ferry tickets were available for purchase at the excursion desk onboard. The number of tickets appear to be limited according to what we were told. Tickets were also available on Harvest Caye. Whether tickets are truly limited or not I can't say as we haven't taken the ferry but if you are sure this is what you want to do its is probably a good idea to visit the excursion desk once onboard and inquire. Gizmosmum Posted August 14, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2019 My DH used the ferry in April. He bought the ticket 10m from where the boats depart to Placencia. When he purchased his ticket he was told which boat he had to return to the island on. Not everyone stuck to their allocated return time which made things a little bit tricky. kfnesq Posted August 14, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2019 My husband used it in April. As others said, he purchased the ticket on board the first day, in order to get to a private scuba dive excursion. Worked perfectly BUT as others have said, the last ferry back may be crowded so get there with time to spare to ensure you get on it.
