CruiseMagnet28 Posted August 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2019 Hello. I'm cruising with a person who has limited mobility. She can slowly walk short distances, but she'd prefer to use a scooter. We're looking to do a mini tour and beach day excursion in Cozumel. Has anyone been to Cozumel and booked an independent excursion that is wheelchair/scooter accessible? Are there tour shuttles/minivans/taxis available at the pier that we can pay to take us around and go to the beach that is wheelchair/scooter accessible? A scenic drive tour (take some pics) and then go to the beach would be great. Thanks in advance. 😊
kokopelli-az Posted August 26, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2019 You might check the website thisiscozumel.com They have an accessible tour: https://thisiscozumel.com/tours/packagedetails/cozumel-wheelchair-accessible-tours and someone reported on that tour in tripadvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g150809-d2471675-r191184040-This_Is_Cozumel-Cozumel_Yucatan_Peninsula.html And this place has accessible taxi tours: https://cozumeltoursbycab.com/island-tour-with-limited-mobility/ What cruise line are you going to be on? Have you checked with them to see what accessible tours they are offering for your cruise? They often have accessible tours that are not offered with their regular listing of tours. In any event, you will need to notify your cruise line that you are bringing a scooter. Your cruise line's Access Department is who to contact regarding this. And depending on what type of scooter will be involved, you may need an accessible room.

We're cruising on the Allure of the Seas and our reservation is noted for special needs assistance with a scooter. The tour that we were interested in that RCCL offered cost too much per person. Thanks for the info but those tours are a lot of money as well. I had no idea that an Accessible van tour would be so expensive.
Splinter Posted August 31, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 31, 2019 If her scooter comes apart and can be loaded in a car trunk, just take a cab to Chankanaab Park. The locker rooms there are wheelchair accessible, so you can change into your suit there, and if she is unable to get down to the water (it requires walking over some rocks), the botanical garden behind the beach area has a paved level path. She would be safe doing this on her own while others in the party are swimming, if she desires.

Hopefully, there will be a cab or tour van that can take us around on a mini tour, which is what we prefer to do, then go to the beach. Thanks.
