soobs Posted August 31, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2019 Hi all We have just booked the 8th December Caribbean cruise on Explorer 2, never cruised Marella before only P & O & Cunard, preferred the itinerary to Britannia's itinerary, looking forward to a change and a different experience but have a few questions. Is Prosecco included in the standard AI? What cider is served? Can anyone see any trips for St Vincent on their personaliser? Are there safes in the cabin's? Are cases stored under beds? That's it for now but sure there will be more questions before departure Thank you in advance
Kittyonions Posted August 31, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 31, 2019 Hi Soobs, we too have been looking at the Marella Caribbean cruises since P and O cancelled our Arabian Gulf cruise for January 2020. However, we were shocked at how much more expensive it will be on Marella for an almost identical cruise. Know that with Marella all drinks are included, but for us we find the drinks prices very reasonable on P and O. Hope your cruise meets all your expectations! ormy Posted August 31, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2019 Free safe in cabin. Cases under bed if they will fit. Cannot help with other questions. We sailed on Explorer 2 in June and had a great cruise, lots of eating options and plenty of space for everyone - never felt crowded.

Cruiseaway21 Posted September 1, 2019 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2019 Hi. I’m booked on that one for February and no, I don’t have any excursions showing for St Vincent yet either.
edinburgher Posted September 1, 2019 #8 Share Posted September 1, 2019 If cases don't fit under the beds when closed, you can open them so they are only half the depth. We found plenty of storage and both our cases actually fitted into a corner in two of the wardrobes. There is a stretchy line across the shower for hand wash items. No other DIY laundry or ironing facilities, you have to pay. Note that as stated above, laundry service only washes, dries and folds. There is is separate charge for ironing. Check the Vista Italian restaurant set up in an area of the MDR every evening. It is a "no fee" restaurant and a great alternative to the MDR. Two menus, they get switched around. Not been on D1 but they also have it on D2 and E1 Great ship. We loved it.
edinburgher Posted September 1, 2019 #9 Share Posted September 1, 2019 Re St Vincent. I recently posted this on the Caribbean-Other board: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2612237-st-vincent/ If there is a Roll Call maybe others would join with you. Even without a RC on our sailing, part way into the itinerary we found 3 who wanted to join us. There are taxi tours at the dock, but we heard a few complaints about these. Maybe just luck which driver/guide you get and where it actually goes. If you do some reading and decide what is of interest to you, consider a private tour booked ahead of time. We came in almost an hour late but he was still patiently waiting, as were other pre-arranged private tour driver/guides. As we had arrived an hour late we opted to skip lunch to save time. Trunos has snacks he gives out and we had a good breakfast onboard.

Vitalsign Posted September 2, 2019 #11 Share Posted September 2, 2019 Soobs. Don't know the laundry prices as never use it and have never been on the Explorers but but the supplements for the other ships for the speciality restaurants range between £20 and £25 There are sometimes special offers available and you can buy a 3 speciality restaurant deal If you are going for 2 weeks then changeover day is a good time to book for Book as early as you can if you want to eat on a special day
soobs Posted September 2, 2019 Author #12 Share Posted September 2, 2019 Thank you Vitalsign, can you book prior to embarkation? is it the same as trips if you cancel you get a refund? Does anyone know when the captain (formal nights) usually are is it a sea day?
Vitalsign Posted September 2, 2019 #13 Share Posted September 2, 2019 Sorry no you can only book the speciality restaurants on board either with the restaurant, staff coming round on the sea trying to sell bookings or on the screens near reception on the Discoveries not sure where they are on the Explorers The captains Nights are only held on Celebration and Dream they are called Dress to Impress Nights on the Discoveries and Explorers and are usually held each week on the evening of the sea day
