Med Odyssey, port of Civitavecchia

We've toured many of the sights in Rome before, so we were very interested in reading posts about going to Tarquinia or Ostia instead.  But, dang, our day in port is a Monday---otherwise known as the "kiss of death."  Phooey!  Any other suggestions of wonderful sights to see/things to do?????  We'll be there on Monday, September 14, 2020.

What does Trip Advisor say there is to see in Civi? Where is the nearest beach? Take a picnic lunch and a good book and just relax.  Where can you get to by public transportation. I know you can get to Tarquinia by bus and it is a lovely but vertically challenging hilltop town even if you won't be able to see the necropolis or the archeology museum. What other towns are a short bus ride away? Or just make it a laid back day and don't even leave the ship; consider it resting up for the next days of non-stop touring.

Kiss of death ……. twaddle!  Having a glass permanently more than half full, it's a day when one can reorganise clothing (if you're really bored) ready for the following days on board.  Do research, relax, or simply go and EXPLORE the locality.  Whether it's your 'cup of tea' or not, if you don't explore, you won't know what is there.  Don't ever forget to look upwards for interesting bits of design and architecture, foliage etc - by positive, and simply go and have a look.  If you are travelling long distance for this cruise (eg USA or Australia etc), don't waste the opportunity.  You never know what you may find - and whether it's 'nice' or 'not nice' there's no way you can come to a worthwhile personal opinion if you don't include all the personal experiences in the mix for your own personal result.

 

I know we've been in some ports people thought were 'boring', and they've opted for the well trodden and sometimes crowded tourist option.  We've been to most places, so we've safely (and I stress safely) gone exploring, and absolutely nothing could replace some of the photos and memories we've got from finding places which don't normally get invaded by excursions, and also we've met some wonderful people.  Just remember never to be late for the back on board time.
