Well it’s not exactly like Silversea has the big bands but they usually have a 4-5 piece band in Dolce Vita that plays a pretty good selection of music.   Typically the band responses pretty nicely to guest requests but obviously some are better than others.  Can’t speak to the dance floor in Dolce Vita on the Muse but considering the size of Silversea ships in general they aren’t huge but normally sufficient.

Our experience on SS ships has been sometimes good and most times not. The dance floors are small and and the combo usually only plays for a short time. The longer periods of dance availability are mostly disc jockey and disco later on. When we first started with SS the combo availability for dancing was much better on the larger dance floors. Unfortunately, most people don't do much ballroom dancing anymore. For ballroom dancing Raddison/Regent was much better than SS, but we haven't cruised with them for quite some time. Crystal is also supposed to be good and, of course, Cunard is probably the best for real ballroom dancing on the Queens. We really like ballroom dancing and we miss it on SS, but we like the smaller ships (less than 700 pax ).

With that said, you could make room in Panorama for two or three couples.  Definitely no space in Dolce Vita even though it’s a cavernous room.

Macirish, what Silversea cruise/sailing are you on or are you considering?  The answer to your question on Ballroom Dancing is as Lawyers often say, is; "It depends."  

 

Randyk47 and Doug mention the size of the Silversea dance floors may be problematic; if you are looking to enjoy dancing the Foxtrot, Rumba, Waltz or maybe a the East Coast Swing.  

 

However, if you are looking to practice your Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha Cha, East or West Coast Swing, Salsa, Mereque, et. al., look on the SS itinerary you are on or considering for the black bowtie icon.  This indicates your voyage has Gentlemen hosts (pls see photo below).

 

Generally, on SS itinerary sea days, if there are Gentlemen hosts, they will have a dance class at 2pm.  During these classes the hosts will teach classic Ballroom Dance steps.  For example, during Dougburns and my Silver Shadow Myanmar cruise in March, there were dance classes at 2pm often and even the Cruise Director Kirk Detweiler (outstanding entertainer in his own right) gave Ballroom dance class on some days at 11:30 a.m.

With a growing number of women traveling independently, prominent cruise lines and river boat companies make it possible for interesting, sociable and admirable men to serve as dance hosts aboard their vessels. Dance Hosts come from all walks of life. They are widowed or divorced, retired or semi-retired. Many have backgrounds in business, law, finance, travel, medicine, education or the military. Candidates must distinguish and know the standard dances: Fox Trot, Swing, Waltz, Rumba, and Cha-Cha. Once on the ship they can begin adding some other styles - Tango, Samba, Quick Step, Merengue, Salsa, Two-Step, Polka, Viennese Waltz, etc.

 

Lastly, alas, only once during our Silversea cruises, Ida and I have found we can get about three to six Ballroom dances in during the Venetian party.  This is a party that is held once per sailing where the Cruise Director and Captain honor the Frequent Floaters (100 days, 250 days, 500 days and those Venetians who have cruised frequently on SS).  Generally, the Silversea ship's band plays a number of Big Band/Ballroom dance classics prior to the party and one or two numbers at the conclusion of the party.  We have enjoyed the space on the ships theater stage,  and practiced our novice Ballroom dance numbers during these events.  Often, during our SS cruises, we have been joined by Silversea seasoned Ballroom dancers who also enjoy the space and dance accordingly.
