Of course it does. Much of NCL's passenger makeup is working class families that work hard for their money and time off...irrespective of what Frank Del Rio desires. NCL has the historical data to model their future pricing, but they choose not to.  They choose to set prices artificially high in advance of the sailing and then implement steady and deliberate price drops after final payment. Perfectly acceptable business decision, by the way.

 

However, I really don't think this model is sustainable...it might work on new, unsuspecting cruisers or passengers without budget constraints. But, all those people complaining and getting into a tizzy are learning a valuable lesson and are left with a sour impression. They think, geez, I really got ripped off on that cruise....definitely won't want to do that again. And so next time, they book at a more reasonable cruise fare. Maybe on NCL or on a competing cruiseline. Lets be real, the mass market lines are more similar than different.
