In cabin tv

Additional side note - already covered, is that it's very easy to do in a balcony or mini suite (and higher) but not as easy for oceanviews and insides (as spacing is very tight & limited, hard to reach - have a small LED flashlight, easy to see & a right-angle adapter plug/short HDMI extension (like those used for Roku sticks) will simplify the task of trying to connect.

Just find/locate the existing HDMI port/plug being used - disconnect it and use your own.  As a courtesy to the next guests staying in the cabin after you, please kindly remember to reconnect it after use or when finished ... otherwise, the interactive stateroom TV will be disabled & not functional.

Consider that - - -

Use care in doing this as you may disable the emergency muster drill warnings issued over the TV  !

Is the HDMI the main source of the TV signal or is it the "F" cable connection ?

The newer ships are no doubt wired differently than the SUN STAR DAWN JEWEL

Actually, doing that disabled all signals to that stateroom TV, until it's re-connected ... messaging and "TV" signals, etc. that go to the display monitor.  Not just emergency/muster drill warnings - in the unlikely chance of it being activated or  broadcasted while cruising.  However, as we experienced them, those safety alarms/drills are heard or transmitted over the public PA system ship-wide, when sounded ... never had to turn on the TV set to listen to them.

On the Escape, HDMI connection provided the sole source TV signal onboard, not the "F" or RU-59 connection with a locking ring ~ (which I believed is used on the GEM)  Don't remember the Dawn (which we're on this Spring ...) being too busy with the ports stops, to do any kind of HDMI playback.  I also thought NCL is using an ethernet type/style plug in the back of the HDTV on the GEM for the digital signal.  Different brand of HD monitors were installed lately for different ships as part of the dry-dock upgrade work - not easy to generalize.  Next time we get on the GEM (possibly the Bliss), I should have more time to "explore" it a little bit.

One probably shouldn't be messing or playing around with these input sources unless they are comfortable & know what they are doing ...

Next question, to be asked by someone - about integrating a bluetooth sound bar/speaker.  Those tiny TV speakers are just horrible ...
